In this class, we’ll explore the journey one person has taken to create numerous 3D prints and designs—with a case study of two specific, very popular, 3D-printed designs—using Fusion 360 software and other Autodesk tools. These designs help demonstrate the value of Fusion 360 software’s multiple workspaces, while requiring the user to find alternative workflows to overcome some limitations. Both projects are 3D-printable items that can be printed on most home 3D printers or through any commercial service. Come and share my experience.

Autodesk Forge is an on-demand web services platform. That means you need to be online to connect to the Autodesk servers to use the various Forge APIs. However, the Autodesk Forge Viewer can work with multiple online, as well as offline sources. There are times where an offline workflow is preferable because of lack of connectivity, security concerns, or performance. In this lecture, we will explore how to optimally use the Forge Viewer in an offline mode, and how to cache and synchronize the data with the server for Mobile and Web applications requiring temporary offline mode capabilities.

In today's difficult times, all around the world engineers and designers like you are constantly facing challenges, including reducing costs, reducing weight, making innovative product designs faster, and on and on. In this session we will show you, step by step, how to use the powerful yet easy-to-use simulation capabilities of Fusion 360 Simulation. The class is aimed at designers and engineers who have never used simulation within their workplace or even believe that they do not need simulation. This session will also go through workflows and tips based on industry best practices to help you use Fusion 360 Simulation confidently.

This lab will guide attendees to understand the main techniques and methods to prepare complex preconstruction documentation and how to take advantage of the BIM and Manufacturing worlds combined together. The class will drive participants to investigate and test the potential of the interaction between the 2 approaches. The aim is showing how a BIM model could be prepared for construction documentation using Fusion 360 and Revit; a particular focus will be put on complex cladding. The main inspiration is the stunning building designed by Zaha Hadid for the Reinold Messner Museum. This is located in Plan de Corones, Italy, and it is composed of a concrete structure "smoothed" with complex concrete panels cladding. The scope of this class is reproducing a similar building and explaining how architects and engineers can take advantage of Autodesk solutions to approach complex designs and make informed decisions. The model that will be created will be then organised to manage the complex concrete cladding and to finally produce the molds and prepare the elements to be placed on the construction site.

30 St Mary Axe, known to most as "The Gherkin," is arguably the most recognisable building on the London skyline. Designed by Foster and Partners, its organic glazed facade has caught the eye of visitors to London since its erection. This hands-on lab is based on a tutorial I developed and uploaded to YouTube (https://youtu.be/NS0JboPxa78) in April 2017. The tutorial walks the user through the process of developing the Gherkin solely using Dynamo and Revit adaptive components. The tutorial has since amassed over 23,000 views, with the largest portion of viewers from the United Kingdom. When search terms 'Revit' and 'Dynamo' are together input to YouTube, the above tutorial appears third in the results, showing the demand by viewers. This hands-on lab will give all participants an insight into how easily geometry and information can be manipulated using the Autodesk suite of design tools. The result of this manipulation is utilised to create a real-world output in the form of the Gherkin, a fitting case study for Autodesk University London.

In this class, we will talk about everything you need to know to get started with Simulation in Fusion 360 software. We will look at how to take advantage of simulation in the context of your Fusion 360 design, the benefits of simulation being tied to the cloud for both solving and collaboration, the problems types that can be solved, and the basic steps to get up and running with your first simulation.

Are you starting with a blank screen? Or do you have a library of components? This is the top-down versus the bottom-up design question. Most designs use both. Your workflow should start with a strategy to get the most out of these styles of design. This class will dive into these different workflows in detail, using Fusion 360 software. Explore top-down design, including the body or component—what's the difference and why you should start with either; workflows to create in place components—starting off on the right foot; and when and how to reuse the designs you’re making. Learn about techniques for bottom-up design, including upload—what’s the best way to get large or small designs from anywhere into Fusion 360 software; file management via Fusion 360—keeping track of it all; design preparation—how to better prepare designs for insert and use; and distributed design workflows—inserting and using the parts you already have.

This session will be a look at the inner workings of Fusion 360 software from 2 of the people who helped build it. Jeff Strater (developer, architect), and Phil Eichmiller (quality engineer, tester) will demonstrate and discuss the core principles and technology at the core of Fusion 360 software’s modeling, sketch, and assembly compute engines. Focusing on performance and stability, this is a class for CAD aficionados interested in a deep understanding of the inner workings of Fusion 360 and how those are best used in modeling and assembly workflows. We'll show you how Fusion 360 is best used for productivity, and for top-down, bottom-up, and streamlined product design workflows.

This class is for you if you’re a Fusion 360 user who regularly works with imported data, with the primary goal of reverse-engineering a design from that imported data. We’ll explore some techniques to use data—such as meshes, curves, images, and even solids and surfaces—from other design systems to create a basis for creating a reliable, native, parametric Fusion 360 design that represents that data as closely as possible. Learn what Fusion 360 can and cannot do when working with imported data. Learn how to avoid common performance problems when working with imported meshes and curves.

This hands-on lab will introduce the Fusion 360 3D CAD design app as a design tool for designers and engineers of all skill levels. We will focus on the basic functional areas of the Fusion 360 app and lead the attendees through the modeling of a simple consumer product. We will cover T-Spline form creation, basic solid modeling and assembly, and materials and rendering.

3D printing has revolutionized the design and manufacturing production workflow, making the creation of design prototypes as easy as pushing a button. Fusion 360 software has become an indispensable tool in this revolution, letting designers and engineers create and iterate their designs faster than ever before. This course will step through the process of developing, printing, and iterating the design of a real product prototype-learning the different phases of the design used to create a 3D-printable final product. Fusion 360 and Print Studio are used every day for a variety of purposes, from the office, to the house, to production and marketing. This course will explore the creation of a unique spinner toy that you can assemble, personalize, and take home with you. This session will feature Fusion 360, Print Studio, and a live 3D printing demonstration.

The Forge Viewer is built on the three.js library and can be easily extended and mixed with three.js functionality. This class will demonstrate just how flexible and customizable the Forge Viewer is by walking you through a set of code samples. Topics covered will include WebVR support, mixing your model components with custom graphics, changing the appearance of your components by adding custom materials and shaders, and animating your models.

Products have been designed as if resources are unlimited. The take, bake, make, waste approach has valuable materials, erroneously called waste, landfilled. We need to design products so that these resources loop back into a material cycle. This closed loop approach recognizes natural limits and values materials through the end of their first product life and instead designs products for a Circular Economy. This session will contextualize the crisis our current system has created, then share case studies that illustrate both environmental and economic advantages gained by businesses with cyclical material flows. The session will conclude with a first hand account inside the Circular Economy design process, as the winner of the 2016 Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge for Best Professional Product shares insights into how he used AutoDesk’s Fusion 360 software to develop his award winning BikeShare Helmet.
