Cerro Corá Station is not a typical engineering project. It’s a 50-meter-deep and 50-meter-diameter cylindrical subway station, designed to accommodate two future subway lines intersecting within a single structural volume. The central structural element? A massive cylindrical retaining wall with four large structural openings—a challenge for any engineer aiming to maintain analytical accuracy and performance. Manually modeling such a structure analytically is time-consuming and a potential source of serious design errors. To overcome this, we developed a complete automated and interoperable workflow that begins with the physical geometry in Revit software, uses custom Dynamo routines to generate the analytical model—including the segmental wall with its four massive openings—and seamlessly transfers everything into Robot Structural Analysis 2025 software for structural analysis and verification.

To address construction challenges, Kajima Corporation has implemented "Proactive Design," an innovative approach integrating detailed construction knowledge from the earliest design stages. This method fundamentally prevents issues related to quality, inconsistencies, cost overruns, and rework. For instance, after Phase 1, condensation issues arose only on the north façade, despite identical floor plans. In Phase 2, we used its integrated design-build capabilities to resolve this issue through early-stage simulations. A LOD 500 model is prepared at the commencement of construction, enabling BIM-based inspections 365 days earlier than standard, thereby mitigating postconstruction risks. During construction, Digital Prototypings ensure real-time consistency. Furthermore, Kajima promotes modularization at the design stage, involving engineers, subcontractors, and fabricators in a seamless integrated model. This approach aims to elevate industry standards and drive progress toward a sustainable future.

This session will walk through how catchments or watersheds can be automatically generated using a surface model and assigned to drainage networks as part of a concept design in Civil 3D software. Ultimately, with the InfoDrainage/Civil 3D integration tool, we’ll see how we can bring all the data across to InfoDrainage and use its more extensive runoff routing methods and rainfall generation tools to set up and simulate hydrology and accurately size up the drainage network.
