As a main contractor working in a fragmented industry, Square Engineering Firm faces significant challenges when it comes to quality and cost management. In this industry talk, we will discuss how Square, a leading main contractor, in partnership with KEMET Corporation, a service provider with extensive experience in the field, has maximized the power of the Cost Management module in Autodesk Build in the management of all project contracts and payments. We'll showcase how the Cost Management module enhanced the visibility and transparency of project costs, which led to gradual adoption and all of Square's projects now being live in Autodesk Build and the Cost Management module. Moreover, we will discuss how we extended the value of this tool by integrating it with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, which enabled us to centralize data sources, ensure data integrity, and reconcile accounting and project management rapidly.

Finding a suitable cost management tool that works for the construction industry is not an easy task, especially in Southeast Asia. Most tools are either too complicated, not user friendly, or simply not suitable for us in Gamuda. Getting the right tool within a good ecosystem is even more rare. This unique class will review key workflows required to go from concept design proposals to detailed design cost estimates. Our mission is to create 2 concept-level designs for a new municipal spine roadway and trunk sewer and compare the cost of works for each scenario. We will start with a detailed look at InfraWorks 360 software and demonstrate the workflows required to build our 2 new proposals. Then we will connect our concept-level design to AutoCAD Civil 3D software to detail the roadway and sewer designs. We will look at the various quantity takeoff tools found in AutoCAD Civil 3D software and export both AutoCAD software and AutoCAD Civil 3D object data to formats that you can use for estimating. To complete the class we will introduce a new cloud-based cost-estimating system called AEC Tender. Using AEC Tender, we can connect to data extracted from our detailed design and generate detailed cost estimates for both scenarios within minutes using past project construction unit costs.

This session will share a recent project that incorporates custom families into an early design project. The families have engineering built into them such that they essentially design themselves once placed in the project. Then, with changes to particular items in the project, the families update their designs in real-time, and the model then updates as well. In addition, the elements are scheduled, with approximated construction cost. This model was created for a client to use as a tool for making design decisions. This client builds a great deal of similar structures and wanted a way to visualize how various design decisions may affect things like ceiling heights, cost, and so on. This session will show how the custom families were created and how the project was modeled.

Revit options can be used for comparing one build option to another. Applying a practical approach using real-world data, you can refine quantities and assign them values for reasonably accurate materials cost analysis. This takes a small residence and focuses on user-created tools for landscaping counts and costs; decorative fence takeoffs using curtain wall components; data and material sourcing and application to generating schedules for bills of materials—using data readily available for local resources. This small real-world example scales up to larger applications, using the same tools and techniques for specific approaches and generalized approaches, for easily swappable families with immediate results.
