AutoCAD (& verticals) Plant 3D, and Revit all have different workflows with ACC/BIM 360 projects and the Desktop Connector. After many challenging hours I believe I have finally found a way to explain the various ACC/BIM 360 workflows and would like to share this knowledge with everyone else who's also dealing with all these various workflows and collaboration options. Specifically, I'm going to cover working with Revit, Plant 3D, and Civil 3D (same workflows for AutoCAD) with ACC and/or BIM 360 projects. I'll also cover the Desktop Connector 15 and 16 and the differences we've encountered, good and bad.

Last year we did a class (“How to Use Fusion 360 and Inventor for Effective Designs”) where we linked Fusion 360 files with Inventor using Desktop Connector. The most requested addition to that was to link those files into Vault software, so this year we’ll go through some of the different configurations for how we can load and manage these Fusion 360 files in Vault. Some of the things we will look at include creating the connection and adding the files, as well as managing the files; and we’ll also discuss version and revisions of the files in Vault.

We will describe the nitty-gritty programming details to implement a cloud-based system to analyze, visualize, and report on universal component usage. The components can be Revit software families used in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or any other kind of assets in any other kind of system. The focus is on the cloud-based database used to manage the component occurrences, either in global or project-based coordinate systems. You can make searches based on both keywords and geographical location. Models are visualized using pure WebGL, Three.js, and the Autodesk View and Data API, providing support for online viewing and model navigation. You can use the web app in any browser and on any mobile device with no need to install any additional software whatsoever. This is an advanced class for experienced programmers.

In the AU 2021, I am planning to present how BIM 360 can help for Design Collaboration, Review and Issues Management between multiple disciplines in the same company or different companies. In WME, how we make use of BIM 360 for various design process and stages like design collaboration, design review, transmittal creation and Issues management. These features are helping us to collaborate within our team and with external parties. We use various workflows for design collaboration, reviews and issues management for the effective collaboration. We use Desktop connector for Navisworks and CAD files. Now we are exploring model coordination and the new feature of Naming convention standard as per ISO standard. We are enjoying and exploring more on new features from Autodesk.

Civil 3D Pressure Pipe is not a topic covered in many books or online tutorials. It assumes a basic understanding of piping, but in order to fully utilize all the intricacies of the software, you need to dive in and explore. This class will help novice users avoid pitfalls the speaker experienced when first using the program. We’ll also highlight many shortcuts you can use to help speed your model creation. We’ll then explain how our group was able to coordinate other outside sources’ piping, electrical, and/or public utility models with our pressure pipe models within BIM 360 software utilizing the Desktop Connector to find clashes and quickly deliver a final design to a client within very short deadlines. We were able to quickly create a site design for electrical conduits, storm, sanitary, and chilled water, within two months.
