In this session, we'll examine how many in the construction industry are moving away from paper and traditional quality assurance, quality control, and collaboration methods in favor of common data environment solutions such as BIM 360 Docs software. We'll cover what exactly BIM 360 Docs software is, and how it works as a cloud-based program and a mobile app. We'll not only look at the benefits, but also at the current drawbacks of working with this workflow. BIM 360 Docs software provides an API as a part of the Forge Platform Data Management API. Using the Forge Platform API, you can access documents stored in BIM 360 Docs software, display models using the Viewing API, and search data in the model. Using the API, for example, you can automate updating models from external applications, make a report to keep track of a team’s progress, and connect your own web services applications with BIM 360 Docs projects. BIM 360 Docs software was released with much fanfare at Autodesk University 2015. Almost a year later, learn how industry leaders are using BIM 360 Docs software for their design and construction workflows. A group of thought leaders in architecture, engineering, and construction partnered with the Autodesk Product Team for an enhanced BIM 360 Docs deployment. Participants completed workflow analysis, implemented BIM 360 Docs software, and met regularly with the Product Team to provide feedback. Over the course of a year, they tested workflows such as design development management, collaborative drawing review, mobile plan viewing, and document management and distribution. In this class, the group will discuss BIM 360 Docs deployment successes and challenges, the experience of working with the Product Team, and how they are looking to grow BIM 360 Docs software within their organizations as a comprehensive tool for document management and project controls. This class will show you how to use BIM 360 Docs software as your published documents portal, and how to get your approved drawings from Vault Professional software to BIM 360 Docs—where external consumers can access it through the BIM 360 Docs web portal or a mobile device. We’ll walk through configuring Vault Project Sync to publish files to BIM 360 Docs, as well as configuring BIM 360 Docs to ensure that only the right people get access to the files. We’ll also discuss the markup capabilities in BIM 360 Docs, and how to get the design team to see those markups.

This is the story of how DPR Construction, along with its design and building-owner partners, was able to successfully implement BIM 360 Docs software as a project collaboration solution on the VCU Health Children’s Hospital project in Richmond, Virginia. Thanks to the growing number of features included with BIM 360 Docs, the team was able to eliminate or integrate the use of more than a dozen design and construction applications traditionally used by the various team members. This talk will discuss the decision that the team made in early 2017 to go with BIM 360, and will chronicle the peaks and valleys the team overcame on their journey to successful implementation. The talk will include insight into the benefits of using BIM 360 Docs on a large project with many stakeholders, including how the team utilized the software for file sharing, model collaboration, design reviews, and drawing management. We’ll conclude with a discussion on future processes the team has planned as the project moves from design into construction.
