This class will cover the proper methods for customizing AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018 isometric styles using the user interface within Project Setup, supplemented with XML file editing. Attendees will learn when to use the user interface, as well as gain insight into the advanced customization available by directly editing the IsoConfig.xml file for the style. Topics covered will include understanding how filters are used in the isometric configuration. We'll learn the difference between themes, schemes, memes-and how to manipulate annotations and dimensions to get the desired isometric deliverable.

AutoCAD Plant 3D Isometrics software is a powerful tool for turning your complex plant piping system models into accurate contractor drawings. This class takes a hands-on approach to customization of isometric drawing output from AutoCAD Plant 3D software and goes hand in hand with the use cases outlined in the Getting the Most Out of Plant 3D Isometrics tech talk. To start, this lab will cover the creation of a new iso style. Then we'll continue into the basic customizations found in the Project Setup interface. From there we'll learn to integrate a custom title block and ways to populate its attributes with project data. We'll then tackle more complex output by delving deeper to make advanced tweaks directly in the configuration files. Finally, we'll wrap up by generating an isometric drawing using the newly created iso style.

Many piping fabricators now receive pipe geometry information in digital format, preferably in Isogen PCF format. AutoCAD Plant 3D software creates PCF files that piping fabricators can use. But if rules are not followed correctly, the interface between AutoCAD Plant 3D and SmartPlant Spoolgen will not work properly. This is not a problem fundamental to AutoCAD Plant 3D software; it’s a problem with how AutoCAD Plant 3D may have been customized. This class will focus on what you need to know to enable AutoCAD Plant 3D to interface to the Spoolgen software that is commonly used by piping fabricators. We will communicate the experience gained by working with the Hexagon Alias Team through practical examples of what to do and what not to do while customizing AutoCAD Plant 3D Isometrics. This class will teach attendees how to manage the piping specs and catalog to ensure compatibility with Spoolgen through the correct mapping of Skeys and End Types, as well as avoiding various “gotchas” that can cause Isogen and Spoolgen to fail.

Learn how to raise the visibility of the design process by giving project managers, engineers, and other teams access to your model data without interrupting the design process. Power BI can help answer questions like: What's the project progress in modeling? How many lines still need isometrics? Did all my equipment get modeled yet? Is my line list complete? These are common questions to ask, but they can require so much work to get an answer that the design process has to stop. With Power Bi, your reporting and project status information can be pulled in parallel with your design efforts. By being able to bring the status information to a weekly stand-up meeting, your team can focus on discussing solutions instead of discovering problems.

Checklists save lives. Surgeons and airline pilots use checklists to make sure they don’t miss important steps in surgery or during flight. Checklists may save the life of an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project as well. This class will cover key steps for getting an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project underway successfully. We’ll also look at how to set up the project directories and drawings for best practices’ use of external references and for utilizing a plant coordinate system. This in turn enables us to overcome the large coordinates issue and actually work with a state plane coordinate system (SPCS)—and far from 0,0 origin! We’ll also demonstrate checklist steps for incorporating models from other Autodesk, Inc., products such as Revit software and Advance Steel software; for successfully generating isometrics and orthographics; and for using an advanced feature in isometrics that creates these isos in the SPCS. You’ll be provided with all of these checklists as a way to retain this information and to expand on them for your AutoCAD Plant 3D software projects.

In this lab, you’ll go through the process of creating custom parts to use within your AutoCAD Plant 3D project drawings. This lab will demonstrate the recommended workflow to create custom parts that can be used in imperial, metric, and mixed metric projects. You’ll take 3D solids and convert them to usable AutoCAD Plant 3D parts, then add them in a catalog and spec, and finally use them within an AutoCAD Plant 3D model drawing to create orthographic and isometric drawings.

It is quite common for companies to manage many projects for one site; however, it requires that the design documents are contained within one entire project to enable consistency in documentation. The documents can be managed in such a way that the projects can all be run concurrently, but updating occurs in one location. In turn, this process enables external use of the data, such as in Autodesk® Navisworks® software or database software that is also managed as a single project/site entity. You will learn how to contain the integrity of site information, such as P&IDs, models, and isometrics. We will outline the requirements and benefits of managing projects in this type of system.

Due to the unique complexity of heavy industry environments, laser scanning has become the staple starting point for the record of as-built conditions to enable engineers and technicians to begin to make sense of the projects they are presented with. Autodesk ReCap and the point cloud support within the AutoCAD environment have been instrumental in enabling designers to begin their work with an accurate understanding of existing conditions; however, the conversion to an intelligent pipework model or steelwork fabrication drawing has remained a highly manual process. Using the point cloud extraction functions available with the FARO As Built for AutoCAD plugin, this Hands-on Lab will take attendees through a step-by-step process of managing the data from heavy industry environments and converting this into intelligent Plant 3D and Advanced Steel geometry. Specific tools will focus on pipework geometry extraction, steelwork geometry extraction, tie-in point extraction, mapping spec sheets, isometric creation, tank volumes and analysis, and much more.

AutoCAD 2015 software's JavaScript API (application programming interface) enables a whole new generation of web-enabled applications. This session will focus on how you can use this API to connect web-based applications with AutoCAD software. We'll look at how you can use HTML5 to implement user interface components inside AutoCAD software (modal and modeless dialogs, palettes, and new document windows), including calling into core AutoCAD software capabilities and custom Microsoft .NET/C++ code via the JavaScript API. To illustrate how to address various workflows, we'll take a look at a few sample integrations, including integrating Paper.js to preview 2D geometry; integrating Three.js to preview 3D geometry; integrating Isomer for isometric previews of 3D geometry; and integrating Shapeshifter to preview and import highly complex 3D geometry.
