Energy analysis has typically been a complex and time-consuming endeavor. At its foundation lies an Energy Analytical Model (EAM) and while advances in BIM have made significant gains in collaboration and productivity, EAM creation is still largely a skilled manual effort and subject to wide variability in BIM and energy analysis practices. A new feature in Revit 2014 Energy Analysis software that uses architectural building elements now greatly simplifies and standardizes EAM creation and subsequent analysis. This class provides background on what an EAM actually is, current industry practices and standards, and a comprehensive walkthrough of numerous worked examples directly in Revit 2014 to highlight how this new feature actually translates different architectural building elements and configurations into a high quality EAM, all without having to add, rebuild, or do any other bespoke model preparation, thereby helping you to deliver higher performing buildings more cost effectively and with greater confidence.

Design review sessions are an essential part of product development for everything from automotive to architecture to manufacturing. It is essential to bring together stakeholders and experts from all disciplines—including design, engineering, and manufacturing—early in the design process. Visualizing prototype designs in VRED software in real time has been invaluable in discovering potential issues and delivering better products on a faster cycle. We have developed a set of design review tools implemented in Python inside of VRED to enable work sessions to be more effective and create a documentation trail for concrete decision making without resorting to as much physical prototype construction. Using ray tracing, VRED can enable reliable review of design details, especially glass, mirrors, and metals. Real-time remote collaboration enables participation from far-flung departments around the world without requiring travel. This session will explore case studies and demonstrate these capabilities.

Fabrication Data Manager is the new cloud-based offering that enables database management in the cloud. Built on the Autodesk Platform Services platform (formerly Forge), the new UI facilitates intuitive visual management for collaboration and consumption in both Revit software and Fabrication authoring products.

Vault software is the best tool for managing your CAD data, particularly for those involved in the design and engineering process. We’ll walk through configuring Vault Project Sync to publish files to BIM 360 Docs, as well as configuring BIM 360 Docs to ensure that only the right people get access to the files. We’ll also discuss the markup capabilities in BIM 360 Docs, and how to get the design team to see those markups.

As mobile technology comes of age on the construction site, the use of iPads and BIM 360 Docs software can now replace the paper plans of the past. The transition to this new environment can be smooth and seamless, or it can be hindered by multiple false starts. This class will provide a live demonstration of the complete process of implementing a BIM 360 Docs project for a sample fire-protection construction project. The lessons taught in this class will have obvious application beyond the fire protection trade, but limiting the live demonstrations to a specific trade provides clarity and enables the presentation to pay some attention to the often-overlooked fire sprinkler industry. We expect the live-demonstration approach of this presentation to provide a great opportunity to understand the capabilities and value of BIM 360 Docs software to anyone involved in the process, including owner/managers, IT personnel, designers, and installers. This session will walk through a typical highway/road design transportation project workflow using the full suite of infrastructure solutions using InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Navisworks software, Revit software, and Structural Bridge Design software. We will look at the following workflows: InfraWorks road layout tools and component roads for preliminary design; cloud services for corridor and profile optimization for Greenfield or Brownfield projects; the creation of bridge structures and evaluating bridge design with line girder analysis; modeling and analyzing of watersheds, culverts, and drainage networks; the moving of preliminary designs from InfraWorks to AutoCAD Civil 3D software for detailed design and documentation; the moving of bridges from InfraWorks to Revit to make a more parametric structural bridge; and the transfer of detailed design elements back to InfraWorks 360 software to visualize and communicate design intent.

This class will walk you through how to prepare and deploy your Inventor software and Fusion 360 software 3D models into bespoke applications for the HTC Vive and the Microsoft HoloLens. Creating and deploying interactions on the HTC Vive and the HoloLens is more like game development than engineering, and that can be a tough barrier to cross for those who don't have a computer science background. You will leave this class with an understanding of how to create and deploy interactive environments that let you walk around your Inventor and Fusion 360 3D models as if they were really there. We'll also cover how to optimize your designs in 3ds Max software for maximum performance, and we'll cover some of the limitations of the hardware. If you've ever wanted to see a full-scale 3D rendering of your designs that you can walk around in and mark up, then this is the class for you!

In this workshop, we will review the path and journey from Microsoft .NET to the Forge platform, and the tools and techniques that were used in the development of ProjectReady, our product that integrates SharePoint with BIM 360 software. At the conclusion of this, attendees will learn the integration between C# programming language and Forge, the similarities and differences, and they’ll learn about the SharePoint API. Attendees should have a technical background and a basic knowledge of C#.
