Understand the multi-channel audio layout

00:09

If you're working with sound that goes beyond stereo,

00:12

you'll want to be sure that your multichannel audio

00:14

settings are configured the way you want them to be

00:18

to find these settings.

00:19

First click on the folder you wish to change these settings for,

00:24

then click the upload options icon on the right.

00:29

Note that you can also set this option at the production level.

00:32

If you wish by selecting the production on the left instead,

00:36

by default,

00:37

we automatically detect the layout of your audio channels

00:40

and handle them with SMPTE ordering.

00:43

Because of this,

00:44

in most cases,

00:45

we generally recommend leaving the setting for multi channel audio as Auto.

00:54

All productions and folders will already be using this setting by default.

00:58

So for the most part, you won't need to make any adjustments.

01:03

However,

01:03

if the file that you're uploading has enough audio tracks

01:06

that it could be mistaken for another type of ordering,

01:09

or if you need to specify film over default

01:13

SMPTE ordering.

01:13

, you can easily switch this based on your needs.

01:17

Under the drop down, you'll find the options for multi channel audio layouts

01:21

including SMPTE ordered or film ordered for both 5.1 and 5.1 0.2,

01:29

as well as an option for dual mono.

01:33

For more on the specifics of these layouts,

01:35

please review our audio specification doc linked below.
