Set the Working Folder and Set Up the Folder Structure

In this unit, you will learn the purpose of a working folder and how to set the working folder. You will also learn how to set up the Vault folder structure for storing your design data.

00:05

The next step in the workflow involves setting the working folder.

00:09

You will also learn about the purpose of the working folder.

00:15

The working folder is a local folder to which files are copied when you download

00:20

files from the Vault as read only or check out files from the Vault database

00:24

using the get command in.

00:26

The working folder needs to be set in order to use Vault.

00:29

The steps for setting a working folder are.

00:32

Step one, create a folder in Windows File Explorer for the working folder.

00:39

Step two,

00:41

log in to Vault client as an Administrator.

00:44

Step three, in the Vault client, select File set working folder.

00:50

And step four,

00:51

choose the working folder you created.

00:55

The working folder is set for the roots of the Vault and not for each folder.

00:59

Note that by default the working folder path is not displayed in the title bar,

01:04

to display the path,

01:06

select Tools options and select The Show Working Folder Location option

01:14

in this demonstration.

01:15

As administrator, we show the working folder path in the title bar

01:20

by selecting Tools

01:22

options,

01:23

then show working for their location.

01:26

To show that in the title bar.

01:29

Now we change the working folder by selecting File

01:33

Set Working Folder

01:37

and we see it's my intro Vault.

01:47

After setting the working folder, you will set up the folder structure and fault

01:51

for storing your design data.

01:55

Here is an example of how you might plan for organizing your data in Vault.

01:60

First you might perform and as is analysis

02:03

to understand how your company organizes design data,

02:06

collaborates on designs and performs change processes.

02:11

Then the to be analysis can be performed to ask

02:14

how the as is results will be implemented in Vault.

02:18

An introduction approach can be applied by using a predefined working

02:22

folder structure and by using Vaults out of the box configuration.

02:30

The folder structure is created on all client machines.

02:33

Either in the Windows file Explorer

02:36

using the new folder command or by using the

02:39

go to working folder command in the Vault client.

02:44

In this demonstration, in the Vault client

02:48

as administrator,

02:50

a working folder structure is created

02:52

under the root folder which maps to the working folder of C:\My-Intro-Vault

02:59

First a folder named Workspaces created

03:06

and then the design project folders are created.

03:11

Here. You'll see in this example they are named 1-Design Project.

03:19

And then several more are created with the names of 2-Design Project.

03:25

And then 3-Design Project.

03:30

And then changing the name up a little bit.

03:33

There are folders named User 1

03:39

and then User 2

03:45

and User 3.

03:51

A new library folder is then created called libraries

03:56

and a content center files, library folder created under it.

04:01

To complete the folder structure set up.
