Create a pile family.
Transcript
00:03
The Pyle family will have a course level of detail shown in the
00:07
bottom left and also a fine level of detail shown on the right.
00:11
The pile would also have an embedment and allow dimension in in elevation and plan.
00:17
Let's begin by creating our new family
00:19
on the home screen.
00:21
Click new family
00:23
in the new family
00:24
Dier box. In this case, we're going to use structural foundation dot RFT
00:30
and we'll go ahead and click open.
00:35
So once again,
00:36
we have two reference planes that are pinned and also define the origin.
00:41
And if I go to the modify ribbon and I take a look at family category and parameters,
00:46
you'll notice of course that the family
00:48
category is already set to structural foundations.
00:51
And you can see here this pile is always gonna be vertical which is good.
00:56
If you move down a bit here, we can see we've got material for model behavior.
00:60
I'm going to set this to concrete, this is going to be an in situ pile.
01:04
So we might want it to merge with other elements.
01:07
And here I'm going to check shed.
01:09
And the reason for this is when I embed this into a pile cap.
01:12
I want to be able to schedule and find out the coordinates perhaps
01:16
of each of the piles that are embedded in the pile cap.
01:20
So that's what this option will do for us.
01:23
OK? So that's the category set so we can go ahead and select. OK?
01:27
And we now start to create our parametric framework
01:31
to do this. We'll go to the create ribbon
01:33
and on the create ribbon, we'll select reference plane.
01:37
I'll start by using pick lines
01:41
and then on the options bar, initially, I'm gonna set an offset of six inches
01:46
and then I'll create my parametric framework.
01:50
So the idea here is you can see that we've got our two center planes still in place,
01:54
but then we're framing the circular pile with these reference planes
01:58
that will allow me to dimension to these and also align to them as well if I want to.
02:03
Now, of course, for this to work successfully,
02:05
we need to place some equal dimensions on these reference planes.
02:09
So going on the modifier ribbon, I'm going to go ahead and select aligned dimension
02:15
and we'll place some dimensions down on
02:17
the three vertical planes and make them equal
02:20
and the same on the three horizontal planes
02:23
and also make them equal.
02:26
While we're here, we need to set these to equal the diameter of the pile.
02:30
So I'll place two dimensions down and on the context ribbon, I'll select,
02:34
modify to release the dimension command.
02:37
I'm now going to select both dimensions by holding down the control key
02:41
and going down the context ribbon here, we can create a parameter.
02:46
So for the parameter name, I'm gonna call this one pile diameter.
02:52
It's going to be a tight parameter.
02:54
And you can see of course,
02:55
the discipline and the length are grayed
02:57
out because that's been defined by the dimension
02:60
and we'll group this under dimensions.
03:03
Let's go ahead and click. OK.
03:05
And you can now see that's been assigned to those two dimensions.
03:09
If I select one of these reference planes and I now drag it,
03:12
you'll now notice that everything is parametric
03:17
but also set up some reference planes in the front elevation.
03:21
So in the project browser, let's open up the front head of ocean
03:25
and you can see here we have ref
03:27
level, which is the reference level that we place the pile on.
03:31
Now, we want the pile to embed into the cap or the beam.
03:35
So I'm gonna put a reference plane above here and also
03:37
a reference plane below to represent the bottom of the pile.
03:41
So once again, we need to create some more reference planes.
03:44
So we'll click the create ribbon
03:46
and then we'll go ahead and select reference plane.
03:50
Now, this time, I'm just gonna sketch these in.
03:52
So I'm gonna sketch a reference plane here
03:54
that's gonna represent the cut off level.
03:57
And another one down here which will represent the bottom of the pile
04:01
again, we can click, modify to release the command.
04:05
And if I want to, I can go and stretch these down by dragging its model end
04:10
and we'll do the same here.
04:12
And of course, to do the center one, I'll need to unpin it.
04:19
OK.
04:20
So there are our reference planes defined.
04:22
We'll need to create some dimensions here and then
04:24
have some parameters to control these various different values.
04:28
So let's start by going to the aligned dimension tool
04:31
and we'll place a dimension from here to the reference level.
04:35
And also we'll place a dimension from the reference plane at the top here
04:39
right away to the bottom. And this is going to be the pile length.
04:45
OK?
04:46
So once we've done that,
04:47
we can go to the context ribbon and release the modify command
04:51
and now we can add some parameters to these values.
04:53
So let's select this dimension here.
04:56
And again, we'll go up to the context ribbon and select create a parameter
05:00
here. I'm gonna type in pine embedment
05:08
and this will be a type parameter.
05:10
And again, the discipline and type of parameter are grayed out
05:13
and we'll group this under dimensions
05:16
and this one here
05:18
will be the pile lengths.
05:24
OK? So they're all our parameters set up. So let's now model the pilo itself.
05:29
So we'll go back to the reference level plan.
05:33
Let's go ahead and select the create ribbon
05:35
and on the create ribbon, we'll select extrusion
05:40
in the drawer panel. We'll go ahead and select the circle option
05:44
and we'll sketch a circle from the center point of the reference plane
05:48
to this intersection here.
05:51
Now, of course, I need to control this circle with a dimension.
05:53
So we'll go up to the dimension pool down.
05:56
And here, I'm going to choose diameter dimension
06:00
and we'll place the diameter on the pile just here.
06:04
I'll then click, modify to release the command.
06:07
OK. So we can now select that dimension.
06:09
And of course, from the label dimension, pull down,
06:12
we can go ahead and choose pile diameter.
06:14
We already defined that to control the reference planes here.
06:18
So let's go up to the ribbon and we'll finish the edit mode.
06:22
We'll make sure that the pile is correct in the front end of ocean.
06:25
So we'll switch to the front head of ocean.
06:28
We can select our extrusion
06:29
and we want to make sure that the
06:31
extrusion is constrained to the top reference plane.
06:35
And also we drag it down with the shape handle
06:38
and constrain it to the bottom reference plane.
06:42
So let's now take a look at this in the 3D view.
06:44
So in the project browser, we'll open up 3D view one
06:48
and here's our pile.
06:51
Another thing we'll need to do,
06:52
of course is be able to assign a structural material to this.
06:55
So let's go ahead and select the pile
06:57
and you'll notice in the properties of this extrusion we have a material
07:02
here. We can associate the family parameter
07:05
now because we started off with a structural foundation template,
07:08
we already have a structural material created and defined.
07:11
So we'll go ahead and select that and click. OK.
07:16
So let's now save our pile. So we go to the quick access toolbar, click, save,
07:22
we go ahead and name this cast in place pile
07:28
and we'll save this.
00:03
The Pyle family will have a course level of detail shown in the
00:07
bottom left and also a fine level of detail shown on the right.
00:11
The pile would also have an embedment and allow dimension in in elevation and plan.
00:17
Let's begin by creating our new family
00:19
on the home screen.
00:21
Click new family
00:23
in the new family
00:24

00:30
and we'll go ahead and click open.
00:35
So once again,
00:36

00:41
And if I go to the modify ribbon and I take a look at family category and parameters,
00:46
you'll notice of course that the family

00:51

00:56

01:12

01:16

01:20
So that's what this option will do for us.
01:23

01:27
And we now start to create our parametric framework
01:31

01:33
and on the create ribbon, we'll select reference plane.
01:37
I'll start by using pick lines

02:30
