Introducing the Traces palette

Describe the use of the Traces palette to add feedback to a drawing file without altering the drawing.

00:04

You can think of a trace as a digital overlay where you can add notes

00:07

or objects that allow you to collaborate

00:09

with others without actually changing the drawing.

00:12

Traces are managed through the traces pallet.

00:15

You can access it from the traces panel in the collaborate tab of the ribbon.

00:19

I'll click on it to turn on the pallet.

00:21

When traces are present in your drawing,

00:23

you'll also see an icon for it in the status bar.

00:26

You can click on this icon to turn the pallet on

00:29

but it won't turn it off.

00:30

In some cases, you may also get a balloon notification

00:33

when you open a file that contains traces,

00:36

the traces palette lists, the traces that are present in the drawing.

00:40

Here. We see that my teammate Chris has added two

00:43

something about a door edition and some mechanical room changes.

00:47

You can hover over a listed trace to get more information about it

00:50

such as when it was created, modified

00:52

and who has contributed to it.
