Place tags and leaders

Place tags in a view as you add elements to the model or add tags to views later. Control and modify tag leaders and arrowheads.

00:06

You can add tags to annotate a view with values that are populated with parameters from the objects being tagged.

00:13

This example shows a furniture layout plan for a living room with a type marked value of each piece of furniture annotated with a tag.

00:22

When you place a tag, the category of the tagged object determines which tag will be used.

00:28

To place tags without leaders, clear leader in the options bar and place the tag.

00:34

The tag is positioned at the origin of the tagged element.

00:38

To place tags with leaders, enable leader in the options bar and place the tag.

00:44

The leader will attach to the midpoint of each side of a bounding box around the element.

00:49

Position the tag with the leader where it best fits in your view.

00:54

Leaders are instance parameters associated with the tag.

00:58

If you later decide you don't want the leader, select the tags and, on the properties palette, clear leader.

01:10

Depending on the geometry of the object tagged, a leader may not touch the tagged object.

01:16

Select the tag and select Free End of the properties palette.

01:21

This adds an additional control point to the leader.

01:24

Use the grips to position the end of the leader where you want it.

01:28

Be careful using a Free End leader as it can be positioned to point at an object other than the one that's tagged.

01:36

When changed back to attached end, the leader will return to the default location.

01:43

Arrowheads are added to a leader from the Type Properties dialog for the tag.

01:48

Select the tag and click Edit Type on the Properties palette.

01:52

Select an Arrowhead from the list and click OK.

02:02

Create additional arrowheads for use on the leaders.

02:05

On the Manage tab, select Additional Settings Arrowheads, duplicate an existing type and make changes to the properties.

02:15

In this example, a fill dot arrowhead is created.

02:27

Now, the fill dot arrowhead type can be assigned to the tag leader.

02:35

Modify and position the leaders in your views to best communicate your design.
