All foundations are hosted and placed automatically on the base of a wall.
00:08
When a wall is selected,
00:10
the wall foundation will remain associated to the wall.
00:15
When working with retaining walls,
00:17
a single wall foundation can be added to the wall and then the wall can be split.
00:21
The top and base level is then adjusted to suit the terrain.
00:25
Notice that the wall foundation would automatically
00:28
change its level based on the wall.
00:31
So you can see here that we have our main building structure and
00:34
we also have this retaining wall structure to the north of the building.
00:39
We're going to start by placing out some wall foundations underneath the walls here
00:43
and then we'll go and transition across to
00:45
placing some retaining wall foundations for our retaining wall
00:50
to help us understand this a bit better. We're going to open up a plan view
00:54
in the project browser under structural plans, go ahead and open up the site plan.
01:01
We'll now tile these views side by side
01:03
to do this. We'll go ahead and select the view ribbon
01:07
and on the view ribbon, go ahead and select tile views.
01:12
We now have the 3D view out on the right hand side here.
01:15
And of course, our plan view on the left,
01:18
I'm going to begin by zooming up on this wall on grid A
01:23
and of course, I'll just rotate the model round so we can see the same wall in 3d.
01:28
And I'm gonna begin now by placing out a bearing footing underneath this wall.
01:33
So when you're placing out wall foundations, there are two types.
01:36
We have a bearing which is equally spaced around the wall center line.
01:41
And we also have a retaining footing where you can set a separate hill and toe length.
01:45
So the foundation will be eccentric about the wall centerline.
01:49
So let's now start by placing out our wall foundation
01:52
to do this. We'll go ahead and select our structure ribbon
01:56
and on our structure ribbon, of course, here,
01:58
you can see that we have our foundation panel
02:01
note here that we have our wall foundation.
02:04
We'll go ahead and select all foundation
02:07
in the property's pallet in the type selector.
02:09
You'll see that we currently have our bearing footing 36 inch by 12 inch.
02:14
We'll begin by using this family type
02:18
to place this. We'll go into our site plan
02:21
and I simply select this wall here
02:23
and you can see here that the foundation is placed. It's in hidden detail.
02:27
And of course, in our 3d view, you can also see the foundation,
02:32
we'll place another foundation in the top left of our structure.
02:35
So you can see here along grid E, we have this other wall.
02:39
Again, I'm just going to pan the 3D model across.
02:42
So we can actually see that wall in 3D.
02:45
And this time,
02:45
I'm going to place the wall foundation by selecting the wall in the 3D view.
02:50
And again, here,
02:51
you can now see that the foundation is shown in hidden detail in our structural plan.
02:56
And of course, it's featuring on our 3D model.
02:59
So to summarize the placement of these wall foundations, it's very simple.
03:03
We can select the wall in plan section
03:06
ation or 3D view.
03:09
Let's now focus our attention to the retaining
03:11
wall structure to the north of the building.
03:14
Before we do this, let's exit the wall foundation command
03:18
to do this on the context ribbon, we'll simply select, modify.
03:23
So in the 3D view here,
03:25
we can see that we have topography and here you can see that we
03:28
have this flat area of topography which
03:30
is obviously much higher than the building level
03:33
to retain that we have this retaining wall structure.
03:36
You can see here that we have different wall segments with the depth, varying
03:41
our intention here is to place our retaining foundations at the base of this war
03:46
rather than placing these wall foundations singly.
03:49
We're going to use the select multiple option on the ribbon
03:53
to do this.
03:54
We'll go back to the structure ribbon and once again select wall foundation
03:59
notice on the context ribbon, we have this option here to select multiple
04:04
in the proper panne in the type selector.
04:07
We're now going to change our wall type
04:08
from wall foundation bearing footing to retaining footing.
04:14
The difference between the two is that the retaining
04:16
footing will have a separate heel and toe length.
04:19
So the retaining footing can be eccentric underneath the wall.
04:23
The bearing footing would always be centered about the wall centerline.
04:28
So we'll now go ahead and make a selection set of our walls.
04:33
You can see now we have all of our walls in that selection set
04:36
and to finalize the placement on the context ribbon,
04:39
we can go ahead and select finish.
04:42
You'll now notice that our wall foundations are placed.
04:45
Let's also look at these in plan.
04:47
And again, here, we can see we have an eccentric foundation,
04:51
so we have a toe length here and a heel length over here.
04:55
Let's now exit the wall foundation command to do this.
04:58
We'll go ahead and select modify on the context ribbon.
