Connect pedestrian areas to walkways in your InfraWorks traffic simulation model

Connect pedestrian areas to walkways in your traffic simulation model in InfraWorks Mobility Simulation.

00:03

After you place crosswalks and connect walkways in your InfraWorks Mobility Simulation model,

00:09

the last thing you need to do to prepare for simulating pedestrian movement is to add individual areas from which pedestrians travel.

00:17

Begin with a model containing a connected pedestrian walkway open in the Mobility Simulation application window.

00:24

Zoom into a walkway within the network, and, for better visibility,

00:29

from the Tabs panel, open the Layer tab and deselect Images to turn off the background.

00:35

Zoom in to the darkened model and pan the view so that the end handle of the walkway is centered in the viewport a little past the cursor.

00:44

Then, right-click and select Area > New Area at Cursor.

00:50

The new pedestrian area appears next to the walkway, but notice the walkway is not highlighted.

00:56

InfraWorks brought the area in at a lower elevation than the walkway, so you must adjust the elevation manually.

01:04

To save time, place a second area first, and then make all your changes at once.

01:10

At the opposite end of the walkway, again, pan the view so that the end handle is centered in the viewport a little past the cursor.

01:18

Right-click and select Area > New Area at Cursor.

01:23

Now, adjust the elevations.

01:25

Select both pedestrian areas, then right-click and select Adjust.

01:31

For this example, in the Adjust dialog, select Apply to All.

01:35

Then, set the Base to “62” and the Height to “5”.

01:40

Click Apply.

01:42

As you can see, both walkways connected to the pedestrian areas are now highlighted.

01:49

This confirms that the two areas are at the correct elevation and the walkways are properly embedded within them.

01:56

Click Close.

01:58

Press ESC to deselect all items, then pan and zoom to see the completed pedestrian network and crosswalk.

02:06

In the Tabs panel, Layer tab, select Images to turn them back on.

02:12

With a completed pedestrian network successfully added to your model,

02:16

you are ready to combine pedestrian traffic with vehicle traffic in your InfraWorks Mobility Simulation model.
