Identify closable pipes in your water supply system to be able to isolate pipes after a contamination event.
Tutorial resources
These downloadable resources will be used to complete this tutorial:
The Isolation module of the Protector app allows for accurately identifying pipes that contain shut-off valves. This helps to determine which pipes in the system need to be closed in order to isolate a particular node element from the rest of the water distribution system.
This example determines which pipes should be closed to isolate the affected facilities in the water distribution network, from a tracer injected at a junction where a contamination event was observed.
Start by running a simulation for the current scenario:
To access the Protector:
Junction 2222 is where a tracer was previously injected to determine the extent of a contamination event.
Next, search for closable pipes on a selection or a domain:
The CLOSABLE_PIPES selection set contains all pipes with closable valves.
This selection set was created previously to identify the extent of the contamination.
Closed facilities identified by the Protector are saved to the CLOSED_FACILITIES selection set.
The Isolation simulation is now ready to be run:
Once the simulation is complete, in the model, the source location of junction 2222 is shown in yellow, the affected facilities appear red, and the closed facilities are gray.
