For decades, digital designs and models lived locally on individual desktop computers or servers by necessity. This made sharing those designs with collaborators, contractors, and anyone beyond the office walls a challenge, and it could make version control a nightmare. Then the cloud came along and changed the game. Collaborating in the cloud enables multiple team members to access the same models in real time, with appropriate access determined by role. As a digital technology specialist in architecture for more than a decade, Nick Burnett sees the cloud as a key resource for architecture companies of all sizes. Small teams can stay connected even if one person is working from home or is at the building site. Large companies can pull in people from different offices, even on different continents, to balance expertise and workloads. And companies large and small can work with outside consultants and contractors in flexible, dynamic ways.
