This class will focus on workflows that will enable you to better create, evaluate, and communicate conceptual designs using InfraWorks software, Civil 3D software, and Revit software. We'll demonstrate how to build concept models from scratch by using the InfraWorks Model Builder tool, and we'll make modifications to the surface in InfraWorks by using imported 2D layout data from AutoCAD software and Civil 3D. Also, we will show the bidirectional workflow between Civil 3D and InfraWorks for grading design options and exporting out as IMX from InfraWorks to Civil 3D and converting them as toposurface in Revit for site work via publishing surfaces and linking topography to and from Autodesk Construction Cloud. Finally, we will cover the best practices to append the InfraWorks-exported FBX into Navisworks software for federated model with collaboration options like Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360 and Shared View/web view links.

We developed A-SPEC, a computational design tool that aims to be a partner for architectural designers, based on the concept of "thinking together about RESTROOMS.” For any specified space, the cloud-based A-SPEC program will run multiple simulations and propose some better restroom-layout plans from tens of thousands of ideas. The design know-how that we’ve proposed in the past is utilized throughout the program to evaluate both the automatic calculations and the layout of the automatic design results derived from those calculations. The design results are converted into a 3D model using Forge Viewer, with veracity confirmable by the human eye. Finally, the results can be linked to Revit software and AutoCAD software via the Design Automation API. In addition to reducing design work time, this tool enables generalization and uniformity of design accuracy without relying on the individual know-how of designers.

Sanergy is a social enterprise based in Nairobi, Kenya, that safely collects and treats 12,000 tons of waste, converting it into valuable products: insect-based proteins derived from black soldier flies for animal feed, organic fertilizer, and biomass fuel briquettes. This model provides a closed-loop, zero-waste solution that ensures waste is transformed into high-quality sustainable products. We are in the process of scaling up our production of insect-based animal protein to convert roughly 70,000 tons per year of organic waste into 3,600 tons of animal feed through the construction of a new advanced facility. Sanergy is a devoted Autodesk user, and this massive construction project provided an opportunity to capitalize on the power of BIM 360 software. In this session, we will review the training given by third-party providers via the Autodesk Foundation, the challenges faced when rolling out a new technology-based way of working in construction within the context of an African country, and the benefits achieved.

With many projects being vastly different from one another, it can be hard to figure out what exactly your BIM (Building Information Modeling) and virtual design and construction (VDC) needs will be for your project. AECOM Hunt has had the fortune to work on and coordinate many different projects. We have learned that, while perhaps similar, no 2 projects or teams are the same, and that each must be handled uniquely. During this course we will share our experiences on 4 projects: Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Redwings; Aloft Magnificent Mile, Chicago; Mount Carmel Hospital, Grove City; and Kite Pharma-Cell Therapy. Other topics will include BIM (Building Information Modeling) stages such as coordination, completion, and turnover.

In this class, we'll discuss how to automate existing AutoCAD blocks to make them into smart, parametrically driven dynamic blocks that allow for variations when used. Dynamic blocks represent good data elements that not only allow you to maintain consistency, but also significantly reduce rework and improve productivity. Who doesn't love that! To finish, we'll discuss one last key factor in driving effective digital maturity: implementing cloud-based processes to centrally store and manage the project data, or, in this case, sharing your dynamic blocks with the other kids (or colleagues).

"What did you do?" I find myself on the phone with a user at least once a week staring at files that tend to be unnecessarily large and cumbersome. In this class we discuss multiple workflows and correction methods to clean up large and corrupt drawings. Having approximately 20 years of experience in the Civil and Land Survey focused on technical support and workflows, I have found several tricks and workflows that can greatly reduce the size of files and prevent file corruption. This becomes an ever-increasing problem as companies start utilizing unconventional storage methods like cloud and remote collaboration.

Blocks are important in AutoCAD software. Working with blocks is not always fun, and can be tedious. There are missed opportunities when objects should be blocks, but are missed or the effort does not justify the reward. And if you always insert a block a certain way, shouldn't AutoCAD just know this? AutoCAD 2024 software introduced machine learning to help productivity. The block-related features got even smarter in AutoCAD 2025. Let's take a deep dive into this. Like what? Finding the blocks to replace is no longer a tedious exercise. AutoCAD now offers assistance by suggesting blocks that are similar to what you've picked or recently placed. AutoCAD can place blocks in a manner similar to a recently placed block. Discover a workflow to convert multiple instances of selected objects into blocks. Or use the AI-driven Object Detection feature to scan your drawing and find objects to be converted into blocks.

Railway systems have complex rules to follow during the design phase, and their automation is highly required due to the massive and systematic work that needs to be done, and the very detailed list of materials necessary. The catenary system is one of the most complex systems in railway. Using Civil 3D, Revit, and Dynamo software, we can automate the design process and create the best workflow—which we'll demonstrate in this session, including complex parametric families, and automatic section views for each mast with dimensions. We'll also demonstrate some other systems' design automation, like CCTV and the automatic creation of camera field-of-vision 3D views for the train driver and metro station platform cameras to achieve the best installation criteria and avoid rework during construction phase. Plus, we'll explore how to convert all of these scripts to plug-in buttons with pyRevit.

This hands-on lab will introduce engineers and designers to the world of using CAM to program computer numerical control (CNC) machines and its connection to the design process.
