This case study is about an enterprise launch of BIM 360 software and Autodesk Forma as our design and construction platform. We have 1,000+ internal (and as many external) collaborators using full capabilities. Since January 1, 2021, we’ve automated the creation of 1,500 active BIM 360 projects, and in May of 2022, we launched Autodesk Forma—all in less than 18 months. And 100% of the new projects will use Autodesk Forma. Our aggressive timeline is focused on our commitment to digitization and project delivery. You’ll hear the pains and gains of this transition from legacy systems into a collaborative, data-driven space. Our first goal was operational efficiency and a consolidated project experience. Being committed to streamlining our project execution, we’re realizing our long-term data-driven results and we’re beginning to harvest project insights. Where are we four years after the launch of ISO 19650? Digital transformation is accelerating as we speak, and standards are coming to make our life easier. Everyone wants to be the first runner and the best in class. But how do we cope with this speed and get the job done? This class will give an example of SYSTRA digital transformation strategy and the effort needed to launch the implementation of ISO 19650 on both the organizational and project levels. We’ll give an overview of the lessons learned and describe "must" actions to be deployed. We’ll uncover how ISO 19650 served to ramp up our digital engineering and data management capabilities, and how it pushed us to invest in development of our own digital solutions based on Autodesk Forge. We’ll also briefly present their implementation on different ongoing projects. To conclude, we’ll look at the direction we are heading right now on our digital transformation journey. The BIM 360 and Autodesk Forge digital solutions will include eLODy, Pablo, Carbon Tracker, and SafebyBIM, among others.

For several years, Stantec has maintained a software stack used to extract data from Revit software for various purposes. Most recently, this was in support of a benchmarking effort to collect standardized, normalized data from our models for reporting and analysis by project type and sector. In this scenario, users must “submit” their data after they have a QA check. Autodesk Data Exchange and APIs present a method to standardize the data extraction process and give control to the end user in regards to what data is exported for downstream use. This process removes the compute from the local desktop and reduces the complexity of the internal code base. Using Microsoft Azure as a data pipeline, we move the data traffic off the corporate network (LAN, WAN, VPN, and ISP). This class will discuss our development of a solution that maximizes the Autodesk Forge Data APIs. In addition to benchmarking, we’ll touch on some of the other areas where we have experimented with the tooling, including as part of our digital twin project.

For the last two years during the pandemic, Jacobs’ digital delivery team in Australia has been aware of the increasing challenges posed by remote project collaboration and stakeholder engagement. We’ve developed a platform named SIFT that is built on top of Autodesk Forge, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Azure services to help accelerate our internal digital transformation. SIFT democratizes building information modeling (BIM) data by helping design teams better consume and understand design information from intelligent models, bridging the gap between specialized BIM software and end users, and making information from Autodesk Forma easily accessible through enterprise-level IT infrastructure like Microsoft 365. When used together with Microsoft Power Platform, SIFT helps us effectively remove most coding requirements and lower the threshold for adoption and operation of BIM technologies, making BIM data more accessible and actionable.

Building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) integration has become an essential part of large-scale projects. While a massive amount of information is produced during the project lifecycle, it’s sometimes hard to use it because it’s trapped inside the BIM and GIS software. This becomes an obstacle for non-users of BIM and GIS—especially on decision-maker levels and from project management perspectives. Using business intelligence software, Microsoft Power BI, and the support of other software like Autodesk Forge and VCAD, Power BI will be able to present intelligent models and GIS layers in an interactive way connected with all types of trackers. In this session, the speaker will present how they created an information center that acts as the single source of truth for their projects using the interactive connection between Power BI, BIM 360 software, ArcGIS, and trackers in Microsoft Excel to give all team members access to up-to-date information.

Learn how to use the power of Autodesk Forma Connect, which allows users to create their own custom app integrations without the need to write code. In this class, we’ll discuss how to connect siloed data to integrated data to support efficient EPC delivery. Specifically, we’ll discuss various applications of the “recipes” (workflows) to extract files and metadata within the common data environment (CDE)—i.e., BIM 360, Autodesk Forma, and Autodesk Assemble—to move to platforms such as Aconex and Microsoft SharePoint, and comply with ISO 19650 requirements. Additionally, the extracted data can be used to automate creation of dashboards to monitor progress of design quantity takeoffs, construction installation, issues resolution, and most other data available via the Autodesk Forge APIs. Recipes can be used for a single project or at an account level (across several projects).
