Max Bögl, a German construction and infrastructure company designed a fully automated urban mobility solution: Transport System Bögl (TSB). It is based on magnetic levitation technology and designed to provide a future-proof public transport for densely populated cities. Max Bögl approached Autodesk Consulting to help finding a quick design solution for their urban mobility systems and build 3D visualization models to communicate the proposed tracks more easily and convincingly. One of the key aspects of the whole design is the light-weight construction of elevated tracks, InfraWorks Bridge Design capabilities with its parametric modelling approach was the perfect answer. This class will highlight the main steps of the solution, the creation of the track and 3D visualization models using Inventor and InfraWorks, including animated parts, generated in 3ds Max to better demonstrate the TSB in action.

While architecture and engineering professionals should always focus on making the best design for the project, workflows designed to produce plans and intelligent models are often missing vital steps for the visualization at the end of the cycle. These steps are easy to add to your workflow once you know what they are. Learn how to speed up the visualization process with small adjustments to your AutoCAD® or Revit® software workflow and with 3D modeling standards that can be checked for and corrected with tools built into 3ds Max Design software. Throughout the last decade, Autodesk Research has been developing advanced techniques for data visualization in a 3D environment. One example of this is Dasher 360, a Forge-based application that can display in a 3D context sensor data captured by sensors in buildings (or on infrastructure such as bridges). In recent months, we’ve been working to publish the core components that display this rich 3D data, for instance, to spatially locate sensors in a 3D model and to map large amounts of IoT (Internet of Things) sensor data to the surface of 3D objects via animated heat maps. This session focuses on how Forge developers can integrate these components into their own applications, delivering first-class visualizations of their customers’ data.

Godrej Storage Solutions is the largest intralogistics solutions provider in India and in Asia abroad. It deals with projects that are unique and customized. The major output is a general arrangement drawing of the warehouse layout. Due to its complex nature, the designs are prepared in 2D layouts and reviewed by customers. This process involves multiple iterations before the customer gets a complete idea about the proposal. After many such iterations, technical sign-off happens but with the uncertainty of an error-free solution. To reduce this long cycle time and for better visibility for the customer, the Godrej design team makes 3D walk-through videos of a complete warehouse with all civil details. This helps the stakeholder to virtually visualize the full warehouse facility during the design stage itself and ensures no conceptual errors. Another aspect of the project business is that the project location and decision makers are not co-located. Hence, visualization helps them making timely and accurate decisions.

As the 3D architectural visualization industry approaches almost 25 years, we can look back with amazement at the many developments in technology and workflow that have contributed to the rapid growth of the field, both creatively and technologically. It aims to demonstrate Factory Fifteen’s unique position between these 2 industries by showcasing 2 projects—a proof-of-concept science-fiction drama, and a film showcasing a stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Attendees will learn how Factory Fifteen’s work in film has cross-pollinated the firm’s work with architects, creating new digital workflows and sensibilities toward “selling architecture.” As well as providing an overview, the speaker will go in detail into the filming and 3D post-production (using 3ds Max software and V-Ray) of one hero shot from each project, as well as illustrating planning and execution at every stage. The first shot involves the design, build, and animation of a mechanical robot and its integration into film footage. Shot 2 involves an elaborate time-lapse sequence over 8 years within a World Cup stadium, from tournament mode to legacy mode, dramatically replacing footage with an evolving digital sequence that leads us to the year 2030. This session features 3ds Max.
