Manage cancellation, renewal, and refunds

You can stop your subscription from renewing by turning off auto-renew or by choosing to cancel at renewal. Both options allow you to continue using your subscription until the end of the current term. If your subscription is not renewed, it moves through a defined shutoff process (Expired → Suspended → Canceled). During part of this process, you can still renew.

Not all renewal options are available for every subscription or in all countries.

Shutoff process

After your offering expires or your payment has not been received by the due date, your offering moves through a series of statuses in order: Expired → Suspended → Canceled. Each stage has a set duration, and these timeframes are added together to make up the full shutoff process.

The shutoff process applies to subscriptions, prepaid Flex tokens, and paid access to Autodesk APIs. The process starts on the offering end date (when you have chosen not to renew) or invoice payment due date, whichever is earlier.

  • Monthly subscriptions and access to APIs via Pay as You Go complete the full shutoff process 30 days after the expiration date.

  • Annual and 3-year subscriptions and prepaid Flex tokens complete the full shutoff process 45 days after the expiration date.

Expired

  • Duration: 15 days.

  • Full product access continues.

  • Renewal is still available.

  • Limited product support (self-help only).

Suspended

  • Duration:

    • 30 days (Annual and 3-year subscriptions and prepaid Flex tokens).

    • 15 days (Monthly subscriptions and APIs via Pay as You Go).

  • Product access is removed.

  • User assignments are preserved.

  • Renewal is still available.

  • Limited product support (self-help only).

Canceled

  • Timing:

    • 30 days after expiration (Monthly subscriptions and APIs via Pay as You Go).

    • 45 days after expiration (Annual and 3-year subscriptions and prepaid Flex tokens).

  • Subscription cannot be renewed.

  • Access is permanently removed.

  • User assignments are deleted.

  • A new subscription must be purchased.

  • Limited product support (self-help only).

  • This status is irreversible.

*Access to self-service features in your account depends on your renewal and payment state—for example, whether auto-renew is turned off, cancel at renewal is selected, or if there is a payment issue. If certain features are unavailable, turn on auto-renew, undo cancel, or resolve your payment issue to restore access to those features.

Turn off auto-renew or cancel at renewal

You have two ways to stop your subscription from renewing. In both cases, your subscription remains active until the expiration date.

Turn off auto-renew

  • Your subscription remains active until the expiration date.

  • Your payment method is not charged automatically.

  • You can still renew manually using available renewal options, such as pay by invoice, checkout, or a quote.

  • You can turn auto-renew back on at any time before the end of the shutoff process.

Turn off auto-renew for a single subscription

  1. Sign in to your Autodesk account.

  2. Go to Billing and orders > Subscriptions and contracts.

  3. Select a product to open the subscription details.

  4. In the Renewal details section, turn Auto-renew off.

  5. You can turn auto-renew back on or choose another renewal method at any time before the end of the shutoff process.

Turn off auto-renew for multiple subscriptions

You can turn off auto-renew for up to 100 subscriptions at once.

  1. Sign in to your Autodesk account.

  2. Go to Billing and orders > Subscriptions and contracts.

  3. From the Actions menu, select Manage auto-renew.

  4. Select subscriptions to turn off auto-renew.

  5. Select the checkbox at the top of the list to apply to all selected subscriptions.

  6. Select Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

Cancel at renewal

  • Your subscription remains active until the expiration date.

  • Your intent to cancel is recorded in your account.

  • You can undo cancel before the end of the shutoff process.

Cancel a subscription at renewal

  1. Sign in to your Autodesk account.

  2. Go to Billing and orders > Subscriptions and contracts.

  3. Select a product to open the subscription details.

  4. Scroll down to the Cancel subscription at renewal section.

  5. Choose Cancel subscription.

  6. Select a reason for cancellation and confirm with the Cancel subscription button.

  7. If you change your mind, undo cancel anytime before the end of the shutoff process and choose a method for renewal.

Important:

Turning off auto-renew or selecting cancel at renewal does not immediately cancel your subscription. In both cases, the subscription continues until its expiration date and then enters the shutoff process.

For subscriptions with multiple bill plans, turning off auto-renew or canceling does not cancel any open bill plans. Any remaining payments are still due and must be paid.

What happens after you cancel or turn off auto-renew

If your subscription is not renewed by the expiration date, it enters a chronological shutoff process.

This applies whether you:

  • Turned off auto-renew.

  • Selected cancel at renewal.

  • Did not complete a manual renewal.

Subscription statuses always change in a fixed order:

Expired → Suspended → Canceled

You cannot pause or suspend a subscription and restart it later. The billing schedule does not change—your subscription always keeps its original renewal date and continues from the same timeline, even if you turn auto-renew off or cancel and later reactivate it.

Example:

You have a monthly subscription that renews on December 21. If you turn off auto-renew or cancel on December 20, your subscription remains active until December 21 and then enters the shutoff process.

If you turn auto-renew back on or undo the cancellation on January 10, the subscription does not start a new billing period from that date. Instead, it continues on the original schedule. You are charged on January 10 for the existing billing cycle, and the next renewal is charged on January 21, following the original renewal date.

Renewing during Expired or Suspended

You can still renew your subscription while it is in the Expired or Suspended stages.

  • Renewing reactivates the existing subscription.

  • The original billing cycle is retained.

  • The renewal date does not reset.

This applies whether you:

  • Turned off auto-renew.

  • Selected cancel at renewal.

Important: If you turn auto-renew back on or manually renew during these stages, you are paying for the original subscription period—even if some time has already passed.

This means:

  • You may be charged for time when you did not use the product.

  • The next renewal date stays aligned with the original schedule.

To start a new billing cycle, you must purchase a new subscription from your country or closest regional Autodesk site.

Monthly subscription behavior

Monthly subscriptions follow the same shutoff process.

Key points:

  • Monthly subscriptions can be renewed up to 30 days after expiration.

  • Turning auto-renew back on or manually renewing does not start a new 30-day period from that day.

  • The subscription continues on its original billing cycle.

Example:

  • Start date: February 21

  • Expiration date: March 21

  • Renewed on: March 28

Result:

  • The subscription continues based on the original cycle.

  • The next renewal is April 21 (based on the original schedule), not April 28 (based on the renewal date).

Turning off auto-renew or selecting Cancel subscription at renewal does not pause or reset a monthly subscription.

Important considerations

  • Subscriptions cannot be paused and resumed later.

  • Turning off auto-renew does not stop time on a subscription.

  • Canceling a subscription does not immediately remove access.

  • Subscriptions remain renewable until they reach the Canceled stage.

In some cases:

  • Partially renewed subscriptions may split into multiple subscription IDs.

  • Non-renewed portions still go through the shutoff process and may remain renewable during that time.

Access to data after expiration

Important information about accessing your data after your subscription expires:

  • Project files: You can continue to view files on your device using a free Autodesk Viewer (Not all files or formats may be supported by Autodesk Viewer).

  • Cloud storage: After 30 days, you may lose access to any cloud storage available to you as part of your subscription. Actual cloud storage and the date at which your access ends may vary by product.

Restarting a subscription

You cannot restart expired subscriptions once the shutoff process is complete and your subscription shows as Canceled. To renew access to software and services, buy a new offering online.

Cancel a free trial

Your trial software automatically expires after the trial period (typically 30 days, or 15 days for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT). To continue using the product, you must purchase a subscription or prepaid Flex tokens.

Refunds and returns

Refunds are separate from canceling a subscription or turning off auto-renew.

To receive a full refund or return an order with an unpaid invoice, you must request it within:

  • 15 days of the initial purchase or renewal date for monthly subscriptions.

  • 30 days of the initial purchase or renewal date for annual or 3-year subscriptions.

  • 30 days of the initial purchase date for prepaid Flex tokens.

This refund policy applies only to purchases and renewals of subscriptions and prepaid Flex tokens purchased directly from Autodesk or purchased through Cleverbridge on behalf of Autodesk.

In addition, this refund policy doesn’t apply to any other products, services, or offerings. Examples of offerings to which this refund policy doesn’t apply include, but aren’t limited to, the following: consulting services, platform subscriptions, extra territory rights, cloud credits, mid-term switch, Pay as You Go, and membership or similar fees. Return policies for subscription and subscription renewal charges from third-party retailers or authorized Autodesk partners may vary. Contact your seller directly for information about return policies. You can find this information in your Autodesk account.

If you are outside the return window:

  • You can still turn off auto-renew or cancel at renewal.

  • Your subscription will continue until expiration and follow the shutoff process.
