Basics of Room Data Sheets

00:00

Let's start by reviewing the basics of Room Data Sheets and the types of information we should include in the document.

00:08

So, what exactly are Room Data Sheets?

00:11

Room Data Sheets are a compilation of the architectural program information.

00:15

Now a lot of times, we'll create spreadsheets for the program information specifically,

00:19

so we can look at the various room types and spatial requirements.

00:23

Now, Room Data Sheet lists out each room in the building and its program requirements.

00:29

So it's often times a lot more detailed than a program spreadsheet.

00:34

A lot of times Room Data Sheets are presented in a book format, and that way each page will have its own room,

00:40

and it may include a graphic in either a Floor Plan or a Floor Plan and Elevation.

00:45

You could even include Sections as well.

00:47

And a lot of times you list equipment, furniture or other schedules as part of the Room Data Sheet.

00:54

It's a comprehensive look at all the requirements for that particular room.

00:58

So there are a lot of challenges when producing a Room Data Sheets.

01:01

First of all, there is a lot of data,

01:03

so if you have one page for each room and you have 1000 rooms in your building, you're talking about 1000 pages,

01:10

and it could be even more for even larger projects.

01:13

And it takes a lot of time to compile the documents.

01:15

So, if you're adding graphics or views for each of the rooms, you have to go through the process of creating all of those views.

01:23

And really, there's no magic bullet.

01:25

You need a solid workflow. You need a good naming convention.

01:28

You're going to need a specific Title Block inside of Revit.

01:31

And there are some add-ins that can help, but they're not necessarily free.

01:36

So, here's the scenario we're going to use for this course.

01:39

You're working on a health care project, and you need to get the clients sign off for all the room and equipment requirements.

01:45

You're going to prepare the model to create Room Data Sheets, and it needs to be done fast.

01:52

Here's how we're going to do it.

01:54

We're gonna create Shared Parameters in Revit, and then we're gonna export our Revit data to an external format.

01:59

We're gonna make some additions to the data, and then we're gonna import it back into Revit.

02:05

Now time's a-wasting. Let's get to it.
