Import an image file

we will review how to import and place a JPEG or PNG file into your project in Autodesk Forma.

We'll start by navigating to the library.

Next, click on "Import".

The import window will pop up on the screen.

Next, you'll want to go ahead and find your JPEG and your files for your PNG and drag it onto the screen.

Your file will take a few moments to upload and once it's ready,

you'll see a preview of it in the viewer and the notification at the top saying that your file is successfully imported.

Click "Save and close".

You'll now see the image amongst the list of items in your library on the left.

To add the image to your project and in the canvas, click on the image icon in the library.

You will enter place mode and your cursor will have the image available to drop anywhere you would like in the canvas.

Go ahead and try to drop your image close to a point in your sight that you want to overlay it on,

and click once to place it.

The image is now placed in the canvas and it's added to the project and the project layers.

You can edit the transparency in the panel on the right-hand side, I'm going to change the transparency to 30%.

You can move the image as well as rotate the image using the tools in the design toolbar.

I'm going to rotate this image so that it is the correct orientation based on my property boundary.

So, to do that, I'll click "Rotate", find the point in question.

All right.

If you would like to scale the image, double click the image in the canvas,

and now you'll see that we are in the editing mode for the reference image when there's that X here,

on the top right-hand corner, and it says to set reference points, to press tab. So that's what we're going to do next,

I'll press tab and I can edit my reference points depending on how big your image is, you might have to zoom out.

And I'm going to make my reference point the same vertex in this project.

And then I can go ahead and drag the node on the top right-hand corner as well.

Once I'm done setting my reference points, I'll press tab again to scale,

and I'll click one node and drag it in, until it looks correct.

If you would like to disable snapping, you can do so by pressing option on your keyboard.

And I'll click when I'm done, it looks good.

And now to exit this mode, go ahead and press "Enter" on your keyboard.

If you would like this reference image to be present throughout every proposal in your project, be sure to add it to your base layers.

So, one right click and move to base and click "Done".
