Existing conditions modeling for operations layout and planning

This learning series introduces the topic of existing conditions modeling in the context of operations layout and planning. You will learn how an existing Revit design can be simplified and exported in a 2D format to facilitate operations layout in the context of the existing facility. For cases where there is no existing CAD data for the facility, we'll also cover how 3D scan data of a facility can be used to develop a PointCloud model in ReCap. Both methods ensure design teams have an accurate representation of the existing facility before beginning the operations layout and planning process.

Having completed this learning series, you will be able to:

  • Define facility sections using 3D views in Revit.
  • Reduce level of detail using categories and subcategories.
  • Export a Revit model to an AutoCAD drawing format.
  • Understand the ReCap overview and introduction to ReCap projects.
  • Look at 3D scan registration in ReCap Professional.

Define facility sections using 3D views in Revit

Learn how facility sections can be defined within an existing Revit model using 3D views. For the purposes of operations layout and planning, this process allows us to share specific portions of the Revit model to design teams collaborating on the factory design project.

Reduce the level of detail using categories and subcategories

Learn how the level of detail for an existing Revit model can be managed using Categories and Subcategories. This process allows us to control exactly what Revit data we want to share with collaborating design teams and ensure models are provided with an appropriate level of detail.

Export a Revit model to an AutoCAD drawing format

Learn how to export a 2D representation of the simplified 3D view of the assembly. This process allows us to then utilize the facility layout within AutoCAD so that we can then plan the operations layout using Factory Design Utilities.
