in this video,
00:05
you'll learn how to specify the copy monitor options and
00:09
then copy and monitor elements from a linked model.
00:14
You will also see how to perform a coordination. Review
00:28
the copy monitor tools work great when you have elements in
00:32
a linked model that you also need in your host model
00:37
rev.
00:37
It can copy those elements into the host model
00:41
and then monitor any changes that may occur.
00:45
Let's take a look at how this works.
00:48
To begin switch to the collaborate tab,
00:51
then in the coordinate panel,
00:54
expand the copy monitored button.
00:57
There are two options here.
00:59
Use current project
01:01
and select link
01:03
for this example, click select link,
01:08
then select the linked model.
01:11
When you do
01:13
rev it goes into copy monitor mode
01:16
to begin on the contextual ribbon tab in the tools panel,
01:21
click options.
01:24
This opens the copy monitor options, dialog
01:28
here, you can control the options for levels,
01:32
grids,
01:33
columns,
01:34
walls and floors.
01:38
You can choose a new type for each original type.
01:43
As you can see in the table.
01:45
The original type is listed on the left and the new type is listed on the right.
01:51
You can expand the drop down in the new type field and choose a new
01:56
type to use for each original type or you can select don't copy this type.
02:03
Additionally,
02:05
for each of the options,
02:07
there are additional copy parameters at the bottom.
02:11
For example, for levels you can specify and offset for the level,
02:16
you can also choose to reuse levels with the same
02:19
name and you can specify an option for reusing matching levels
02:25
and you can also add a suffix or a prefix to the level names.
02:31
There are similar options for each of these
02:34
and you can specify all of those and then click OK
02:38
to close the copy monitor options, dialog.
02:42
Next click coordination settings.
02:45
To open the coordination settings, dialog
02:49
here, you can specify the options for several other categories,
02:54
such as air terminals, communication devices, data devices and many more.
03:01
For this example, select lighting fixtures,
03:05
you can control the copy behavior and the mapping behavior.
03:11
The copy behavior can be set to allow batch copy,
03:15
which means that you can use the batch copy
03:18
tool to copy all elements in that category.
03:23
You can set it to copy individually where you
03:27
can just copy individual elements at a time.
03:29
Or you can choose to ignore the category altogether.
03:34
For lighting fixtures, choose allow batch copy.
03:39
Then for the mapping behavior you can choose to
03:42
copy the original type or specify type mapping.
03:47
When you choose specify type mapping,
03:50
a type mapping option appears below the category.
03:54
And then when you select that you see a similar table two as you saw before,
03:59
you can choose a new type to use for each of the original types in the linked model.
04:07
You can choose to copy the original type.
04:10
You can choose to not even copy the type or you
04:14
can select a type that is loaded into your host project.
04:21
For this example, I'll leave each one set to copy original type.
04:27
But as you can see you can get very detailed
04:31
in how you copy all of the various family types
04:37
for this example click save and close.
04:42
Now you can use the copy tool to copy elements individually.
04:48
And so we'll start with the grids, click copy
04:51
and then in the options bar, select multiple
04:55
and then press control and select all of the grids
05:01
if needed. You can click the filter button to filter out additional elements
05:07
that may have been selected.
05:10
For example,
05:11
I'll filter out the walls and make sure that just the grids are selected.
05:14
And click. Ok.
05:16
And now with the grid selected
05:18
I will click finish on the options bar
05:21
and what I do
05:23
the grids are copied and you can also see monitor icons in the drawing area.
05:29
That means that each grid is now monitoring
05:32
the grid in the linked model.
05:36
I'll deselect the grids
05:39
and then I'll switch to the south elevation view
05:43
here. I have level one and level two in the host project.
05:48
So instead of copying them I can just monitor
05:52
the levels in the link using the existing levels.
05:57
So I'll click monitor
06:00
and then I can select A level in the host project
06:04
and then a level in the link.
06:07
And now you can see the monitor icon again.
06:10
I'll do the same thing for level one
06:13
And we're now monitoring level one
06:16
and level two.
06:18
I'll click finish to finish the copy monitor operation.
06:24
Next I'll open the level one ceiling plan view and
06:28
we can see lighting fixtures in the linked model.
06:34
I'm going to activate the copy monitor tool again by expanding
06:37
copy monitor and clicking select link and then I'll select the link
06:42
and remember we set the lighting fixtures category to allow batch copy.
06:48
So when I click batch copy on the contextual ribbon tab rev,
06:54
it will then batch copy the lighting fixtures
06:57
and rev it displays the fixtures found dialogue and gives us an opportunity to
07:03
go back and specify the type mapping if we haven't done so already.
07:08
If you need to you can click specify type mapping,
07:11
behavior and copy fixtures or if you already have click copy the fixtures
07:19
and when you do
07:20
rev it will copy all of those fixtures
07:24
as well as begin monitoring them
07:28
in this case since we copied the same type rev
07:31
it is renaming the type and we see a warning
07:34
stating that fact I'll click in blank space
07:38
and now when I hover over a lighting fixture
07:41
I can select it because it's now in the host model and there's now a monitor icon.
07:47
I'll click finish again
07:50
and now let's take a look at what happens when there are changes
07:58
when you are monitoring elements in a linked model
08:03
and you open up your host model,
08:05
you may get a dialogue like this stating that
08:08
an instance of a link needs a coordination review.
08:12
You can click OK. And your model will open
08:17
and then to perform the coordination review switch to
08:20
the collaborate tab and in the coordinate panel,
08:24
expand the coordination review button and click select link,
08:29
then select the linked model.
08:32
When you do
08:33
the coordination review dialogue will open
08:36
and this will show you
08:38
the elements that are no longer in the same position
08:43
in terms of the elements that you are monitoring in the linked model.
08:49
So here we can see that there are lighting fixtures and as
08:53
we continue to expand these branches we can see the specific elements that
08:59
are in question and when I select one of the listings it'll actually
09:04
highlight in the model and I can zoom in on that area.
09:09
So here we can see that there is a lighting fixture in our host model that's
09:14
monitoring a lighting fixture in the link and
09:17
the lighting fixture in the link has moved.
09:21
Now we can choose an action to take and when we
09:24
click in the action field and expand the drop down,
09:27
you can see the available options.
09:29
We can choose to postpone the action and say we're going to deal with it later.
09:35
We can reject it altogether or we can accept the difference
09:40
or we can move the instance of the fixture or we can
09:46
move the instance in our host model to match that in the link
09:50
for example, I'll choose to move each instance
09:55
and additionally, if you wanted, you can add a comment to keep additional notes.
10:01
Now, when I click apply,
10:03
you can see the lighting fixtures in our host model
10:07
move to match those in the link,
10:10
and then we can click OK to close the coordination, review dialogue.
10:16
So,
10:16
as you can see the copy monitor tools are a
10:20
great way to copy elements in a linked model and
10:24
place them in your host model and then track any
10:28
future changes so that you are aware of that.
