in this video, you'll learn how to resolve common errors and warnings in a model,
00:10
you'll also see how to purge items from a project.
00:15
Additionally, we will discuss auditing and compacting models
00:19
as well as the implications of exploding A. D. W. G. File.
00:36
All rabbit users should be focused on model maintenance,
00:41
focusing on good health in your model will help the model perform at an optimal level
00:48
and this is beneficial to everyone working in the project.
00:54
To begin,
00:55
everyone needs to make sure that errors and warnings are resolved,
01:00
errors must be resolved immediately
01:03
rev it will not let you continue when you receive an error
01:07
and so really you just need to focus on whatever the dialogue tells you to do
01:13
and this is usually undoing the previous action or deleting an element,
01:18
warnings on the other hand can build up in the background and really be unnoticed
01:25
to see the warnings in your project,
01:28
switch to the manage tab,
01:31
then in the inquiry panel
01:33
click review warnings.
01:37
This opens a dialog showing you all of the warnings in your project.
01:43
In this exercise
01:45
there are several common warnings,
01:48
such as room tag is outside of its room.
01:52
Multiple rooms are in the same enclosed region
01:56
and if we scroll down we can see some other common ones.
01:59
Elements have duplicate mark values and so on and so forth.
02:05
So really you just need to expand the warning
02:08
and you can see the specific warnings and then keep
02:12
expanding that to see the specific elements in the
02:16
warning that need to be addressed in some way.
02:20
For example,
02:21
if we expand the elements have duplicate mark
02:24
values and then expand one of the warnings.
02:27
We can see the actual element I. D. S.
02:30
You can jot down those element I. D. S.
02:33
And then click close and then back in the inquiry panel, click select by I. D.
02:41
And this opens the select elements by I. D. Dialogue
02:46
and I'll enter the element I. D. For one of the elements.
02:53
And then I can click show to have rev it show me that element. Or I can simply click OK.
02:59
And rev it will select the element.
03:03
Now this is one of those that has a duplicate mark value
03:07
and if I'm not using the mark I can simply remove it altogether
03:12
and that should address that warning.
03:15
Now if we go back and look at the warnings I can expand the elements
03:20
have duplicate mark values and now there's only one warning there instead of two.
03:27
And so really most of the warnings can be addressed pretty easily.
03:31
It's just a matter of taking the time to go in there and resolve them.
03:36
Such as room tag is outside of room.
03:38
Just need to move that room tag back inside the room or
03:42
enable a leader and just continue working your way through the list.
03:48
I'll click close to close this dialog
03:51
and next on the manage tab in the settings panel. I'll click purge unused.
03:59
It's also good to periodically purge certain families and
04:04
types that are not going to be used.
04:08
Typically I recommend that the first thing you do
04:11
when you open this dialog is to click check none
04:15
because another thing that you don't want to
04:17
do is purge every single unused item from the
04:21
project because there's likely several of them that
04:25
actually need to be used at some point.
04:28
At this point you can scroll through the list of families
04:31
and expand various categories and select specific families and types.
04:37
For example, if I expand the doors category,
04:41
I can then see
04:43
the various families
04:46
and some of them. I can select the entire family whereas some I cannot
04:51
and if you cannot select the family, that means that some of the types are in use.
04:55
So you can expand that listing and then select a specific type.
04:60
So you can either select the entire family and all the
05:02
types associated with it or you may need to select individual types
05:09
and you can just work your way through the list here and select
05:13
specific families and types that you know are not going to be used.
05:17
And then you can continue to scroll to the bottom and see
05:20
groups and you can even purge groups as well as other styles where
05:26
you can see things like arrowheads and materials and material assets and text
05:31
types and once again you can expand those and select various types.
05:37
Once you have selected the items that you want,
05:41
you can see the number of items checked at the bottom
05:45
and as well as additional number of imported
05:48
categories to purge and then you can click OK
05:52
to purge those items from
05:55
your project
05:59
continuing on.
06:00
The audit feature can be used for any rabbit file,
06:05
whether it's a work shared project or even a non work shared project.
06:09
But it's really important when it comes to work shared projects,
06:14
I'm going to click open on the quick access toolbar
06:18
and then I'm going to select the Central Model exercise file.
06:24
You typically do not want to open the Central model,
06:27
but when it comes to model maintenance,
06:31
you can open the central model as long as no one's in there.
06:35
This is something that you typically do after hours and I'm
06:39
gonna de select create new local and then I will select audit
06:44
and an audit warning dialog appears stating that this could take a long time.
06:51
And the reason is because rev it is actually going to scan all of the elements in the
06:57
project and look for elements that have been corrupted
07:01
and it's going to try to fix them.
07:04
So when you get this dialog you can click OK?
07:07
And then you can click open to begin the auditing process
07:13
and this is a small project. So it doesn't take that long.
07:17
But if you have a larger project it could take quite some time.
07:22
The auditing process does not necessarily tell you what has been fixed.
07:28
But it is, it is something that you want to do on a regular basis,
07:33
usually at least once a week.
07:38
Also when you synchronize with central,
07:42
for example on the quick access toolbar,
07:44
I'll click synchronize and modify settings.
07:47
You can see that at the top. There is an option to compact the central model.
07:54
This is also something that can be done to help compact
07:58
the file to help with the better health of the file.
08:04
So I'm going to select compact central model and I'm
08:07
going to relinquish borrowed elements and then I'll click.
08:11
Ok?
08:13
So depending on the size of your projects and
08:16
the number of users working on the projects,
08:19
you can come up with a maintenance plan to audit
08:24
your projects as well as compact the central models.
08:30
Lastly,
08:31
one thing that everyone needs to be aware of that can negatively affect a project
08:37
is when a D W G file has been imported and then it's exploded.
08:43
That can really add a lot of extra data to the project that you do not need.
08:51
And so that's something that should be added to some type of project standards
08:56
that no one should ever do to help with the health of a project
00:04
