Navigate and correct interferences - Exercise
Interference checking lets you quickly identify pipe network parts that may conflict with each other. This features inside Civil 3D compares the actual 3D Model of the pipe network to identify parts that physically overlap, collide, or intersect in an inappropriate way, or that have violated the predefined, proximity-based criteria.
Objective 2: Navigate and correct the interferences
Profiles were created in the drawing to view the interferences easier.
- Open Civil 3D.
- Open Interference Checks in Civil 3D_Begin2.dwg.
- In Profile 1, Click on the Storm pipe crossing between Structure 23 and Structure 15.
- Right-click and select Pipe Properties.
- Set the Style to Pipe Crossing Pipe (Storm).
- Click OK.
Review the profile to see Pipe - (34) crossing is 4.9 feet below the Sanitary line. Since the criteria set is 5 foot, we will need to modify the storm pipe slope to increase the distance of separation beyond 5 foot.
- In Profile 1, Click on the Storm Pipe – (34) pipe crossing.
- Right-click and select Pipe Properties.
- Set the Style to Double Line (Storm).
- Click OK.
- In the Plan View, click to select Pipe – (24). This is the storm pipe that crosses the sanitary line between Structure 15 and Structure 23.
- Right-click and select Pipe Properties.
- In the Part Properties Tab, change Pipe Slope (Hold Start) to -1%.

- Click OK.
Changing the slope of this storm pipe has affected the proximity check criteria. Any modifications to the network would require the interference check to be rerun.
- Prospector > Pipe Networks > Interference Checks > right-click on Sanitary & Basin 2.
- Select Rerun Interference Check.

The new number of interferences found now equals 1.
To fix the remaining 1 interference:
- In the Plan View, click to select Sanitary Pipe – (40). This is the pipe that crosses the storm line between CB-5 and CB-4.
- Right-click and select Pipe Properties.
- Enter -3.0 for the Pipe Slope (Hold Start).
- Click OK.

- Prospector > Pipe Networks > Interference Checks > right-click on Sanitary & Basin 2.
- Select Rerun Interference Check.

The new number of interferences found now equals 0.
