In addition to using modeling tools,

00:05

we can also start to add some modifiers to our objects.

00:09

So for instance, let's go ahead and I'm just gonna click off of this,

00:13

go back to our main editable poly

00:15

and let's go into the modifier list that's directly above that.

00:19

So there are going to be tons of different modifiers that we can add.

00:22

Let's say I want to smooth this. Well, there are several ways that we can do this.

00:27

I'm gonna go ahead and you can add like a turbo smooth.

00:30

Uh If you want to, I'm gonna go ahead and add an open sub

00:33

and then under here you can see with that open subdiv above that polygon.

00:38

What you're seeing now

00:39

is the result of the stack.

00:42

And so if I click on the edible poly,

00:43

now we're only seeing that base polygon even

00:46

though this open subdiv is still on there.

00:48

If we wanna be able to see the result, no matter where we are in the stack,

00:51

we can click on this button right here to show in result.

00:54

And now we're seeing the result of that open

00:55

subdiv even though we don't have it selected,

00:58

we can go into the open sub

00:59

and change the iterations to make it smoother.

01:01

We can turn off the visibility if we want to go back and see that or we can turn this off.

01:05

And then we're only looking at whatever

01:07

part of that stack we happen to be looking at right then.

01:10

So you can layer modifiers on top of each other to get the result that you want.

01:15

Now, before we move on, I did want to show you one more thing about the modifier stack.

01:19

And so I've gone ahead and deleted that object.

01:21

Let's create a new primitive really quickly. So I'm gonna go to create

01:24

box and let's just go to the keyboard entry, I'll do 10 by 10 by 10 and just hit create.

01:29

And so here we have our box. If we go into the modify panel, you can see

01:34

that primitive here

01:36

at the beginning of the lesson we talked about having to convert this to

01:39

an editable mash or editable poly in order to use the polygon modeling tools.

01:43

Well, instead of converting our model,

01:45

we could also use the modifier stack to enable us to use those tools.

01:49

So if instead of right clicking on the box

01:51

and choosing to convert this to an editable poly,

01:54

we can't just go into the modifier stack.

01:56

And if we come down to the ease, we can see we have an edit poly modifier.

02:01

So if we add that to the top of the stack. And if we open up that edit poly

02:05

modifier,

02:06

now we go to polygon

02:08

and we choose our polygons,

02:09

we can come down to extrude and we can start to use the

02:12

same modeling tools on this primitive shape that we have not converted.

02:16

So utilizing the stack,

02:17

we're able to kind of convert this into

02:19

an edible poly without actually converting it.

02:21

So if we had to, we could go back

02:23

in and make changes to the primitive.

02:25

So the stack is really,

02:26

really a flexible way of working in that you can separate

02:29

all of your actions into different modifiers on the stack.

02:32

And then at certain points, you can collapse the stack when you're ready to go.

02:35

All right. So just another way to use the modifier stack.
