Manage linetypes

Describe the use of the Linetype Manager to view and delete available linetypes, and to adjust scaling factors.

00:04

Line type is a visual property assigned to geometric objects.

00:08

Line types can be a pattern of dashes, dots,

00:11

text and symbols or an unbroken continuous line.

00:16

The current line type setting defines the

00:18

current appearance of all new geometric objects.

00:22

Before you can use different line types, you must load them into the drawing

00:27

on the home ribbon

00:28

in the properties panel, expand the line type drop down

00:33

here. You can see the line types that have already been loaded into the drawing,

00:38

select other

00:40

to open the line type manager dialogue.

00:43

The panel in the lower portion of the dialogue lists,

00:46

the line types that have already been loaded,

00:49

you can expand the line type filters drop down

00:52

to filter the line types in the list to show only those

00:55

line types that have already been used or just those that are

00:59

xref dependent

01:01

leave this set to show all line types.

01:05

Notice that you can also select invert filter to filter the

01:08

list based on the opposite of the criteria you select.

01:13

You can also use buttons on the right to load additional line types,

01:17

delete selected line types or make a selected line type.

01:21

The current line type,

01:23

when you select the continuous line type and then click delete,

01:27

you see a dialogue informing you that the line type was not deleted.

01:31

The message in the dialogue explains that you cannot

01:34

delete the bilayer by block or continuous line types.

01:38

You also cannot delete the current line type,

01:41

an X

01:41

ref dependent line type or any line type that has already been used in the drawing.

01:47

Click. OK. To close this dialogue.

01:52

When you select show details the details section

01:56

of the line type manager dialogue is displayed

01:59

here, you can see additional properties

02:01

and adjust the line type scaling factors.

02:05

For example,

02:06

the global scale factor is the scaling factor assigned for all line types.

02:12

While the current object scale is the line type scale for all newly created objects.

02:18

The resulting scale is the global scale

02:21

factor multiplied by the object scale factor.

02:25

Also when you use paper space units for scaling is selected

02:29

line types are scaled identically in paper space and model space.

02:34

This is very useful when working with multiple viewpoints,

02:39

click hide details to hide the details section.
