Create plan and profile sheets, and then use those sheets to calculate earthwork volumes and pavement quantity.
Transcript
00:04
In this session, we will create plan and profile sheets based on our design
00:09
and then calculate the earthwork volumes and the pavement quantities.
00:13
We can then look at some of the reporting options available within civil 3d.
00:18
To begin with, we will create the view frames based on our design alignments.
00:23
So we'll go under the output tab
00:25
and choose create view frames.
00:28
We can either select the desired alignment from the list of
00:31
choices or we can select the alignment in our file.
00:35
We then choose the scale and the page size
00:39
and then we can determine how the sheets will be laid out and displayed either plan,
00:44
view, profile view or both.
00:47
Once we set the view parameters for the plan and profile sheets,
00:51
the view frames will be drawn
00:55
and then we can do the same thing for the other alignment.
00:58
But at a different scale to see how those view frames differ.
01:05
Next, we'll choose the create sheets function under the output tab.
01:09
We choose which view set we want to use
01:13
and we can specify the location of the sheet files.
01:16
Those sheet files will be added to BM 360 with the rest of the project.
01:22
After we provide the inputs,
01:24
we then specify on the screen where we want the profile view to be drawn.
01:29
And we can just pick an empty point in our file
01:33
in the sheet file. We can view the details.
01:36
If we need to make any revisions to the profile view,
01:39
we go into model space
01:41
and we make the same modifications we would for any other profile here,
01:46
we want to revise the elevation view to display all of the existing ground profile.
01:50
So we can select either automatic or user defined elevations
01:55
or we can make revisions as needed.
01:58
Once we've made those revisions in the viewport,
02:01
everything is updated in paper space.
02:04
We can also make any revisions in the viewport to the plan view.
02:10
Next, let's calculate the volumes and the quantities of the materials
02:15
we can do this by the cross section method or based on the cord or surfaces.
02:20
Let's take a look at the assembly and see what kind of information we need to gather.
02:24
We want to create a surface that's based on the bottom of our assembly.
02:28
So we'll select the sub base and the sidewalk
02:32
and we also did create a sub assembly previously
02:35
with the composer.
02:36
So we'll need to know what codes we need to include so that the surface is accurate.
02:41
It looks like those are sub base and bottom of curb. We
02:45
will also include the cut and fill points
02:48
when we add the elements to our surface,
02:50
we want them to represent the bottom of our structure.
02:55
So once the surface has been created,
02:57
we can then add that to our sections to compute the volumes.
03:02
So we can select any section
03:04
and then choose sample more sources.
03:08
We choose the surface that we want to add to the sections.
03:11
And we specify the style.
03:14
Now we want this to stand out.
03:15
So we'll revise the way that our standard surface displays.
03:19
Once that runs, we can inspect the sections
03:22
and that surface seems to have come in very nicely.
03:26
So let's create the material list.
03:27
Now, we can choose this section and select compute materials.
03:32
There are several types of quantities that we can compute including earthwork
03:36
and pavement materials.
03:39
We specify our surface and then we run the command.
03:43
We can now see the hatching in our views
03:46
and we can see the difference between cut hatch and a fill hatch.
03:50
We can do the same workflow for the quantities
03:53
we'll just need to edit the materials. So we'll add these elements as structures
03:58
and we can choose the material from the corridor shapes.
04:04
So we still need to add the shape that we created and we define that as concrete.
04:09
So we'll do this the same way
04:13
and now we see those are in section view.
04:15
So we're ready to run the volume and quantities reports.
04:19
So let's generate the volume report first.
04:21
So we have some choices
04:23
or the style,
04:25
but we'll choose earthwork for. Now
04:27
when we run the report, we can see the summary of the sections.
04:31
We want to pay attention to the cumulative volume.
04:35
Now, we could copy this into an Excel spreadsheet or we can add it as a table if needed.
04:41
So we do the same thing to run the quantities report.
04:44
We choose the section, select volume report.
04:47
This time we will choose select material type.
04:51
This gives us the summary of all the materials that
04:54
we created in our list based on the corridor.
04:58
Another option we have in regards to volumes is to
05:01
choose the analyze tab and pick the volumes dashboard.
05:04
Here, we can create a surface based on the difference
05:08
between any two surfaces that we specify.
05:11
We could choose the top surface against the sub grade or we could measure
05:15
the sub grade against the existing ground or any combination that we choose.
05:21
We can display the tables within the C ad file of the volumes
05:25
and of our materials.
05:28
And we can also create a mass hall
05:30
diagram from the volumes that were calculated previously,
05:33
the last workflow that we want to demonstrate. Here is the reporting feature.
05:38
We access those in the toolbox tab
05:40
and then we can open the report manager and we can see the different reports
05:44
that are available for all the different civil 3D elements in our design file.
05:50
We can generate geometry reports
05:55
and pipe network reports.
05:57
As well as any other elements that we might need from our design.
06:01
We can select a single element or multiple items.
06:05
This is a great tool to explore,
06:06
to find the specific data that may be needed for any design project.
