Open and repair a file with RECOVER

Use the RECOVER command to open and repair a damaged file, and view the recovery results.

00:04

What do you do? If an audit report said it found six errors

00:07

and fixed three or even worse, your file won't open at all.

00:11

You do have another course of action you can take,

00:14

it's called recover and you can use it in place of the open command.

00:18

It will run an even deeper scan on your file, often fixing all of its problems.

00:23

Let's close the file we're in without saving so that it still contains the errors.

00:29

If you're in the start tab,

00:30

you'll notice there is no recover option in

00:33

either the pulldown or the thumbnail options.

00:36

You'll have to go to the application menu.

00:38

You'll see recover at the bottom

00:40

hover over or click on the menu entry to expand the flyout menu

00:44

there. You'll find recover.

00:46

You can also type recover on the command line from any open file.

00:50

Click on it to display the file selection dialogue just like the open command does

00:55

select the 4-01 dash topo file that we were just using

00:59

and click on the open button.

The file will get audited and repaired prior to opening.

01:04

When it completes its operation,

01:06

an alert will be displayed explaining what errors.

01:09

If any were found, how many were fixed and how many were erased.

01:13

Close the alert to return to your drawing.

01:16

You can choose not to see the alert again by clicking on the.
