Import as-built field point locations into AutoCAD with Point Layout

Import as-built field point locations into your AutoCAD project using the Import Points tool of Autodesk Point Layout.

00:03

When working in Autodesk Point Layout,

00:06

you can use the Import Points tool to bring as-built field point locations into your project, and update their locations if needed.

00:14

First, pick a point you want to update in your project.

00:19

In this example, point number 4040 is chosen.

00:25

Right-click in the model space and select Point Layout > Import Points.

00:32

In the Import Location Points from File dialog, first click Select File to Import.

00:39

Browse to and select the file containing the as-built points you want.

00:44

The dialog updates with the imported location points.

00:49

Check to make sure your coordinate system and import order match, then click OK.

00:57

In the command line,

00:59

you will see a prompt telling you that one of the imported points has the same Number and Description as an existing point in your file,

01:07

but a different location.

01:09

You can choose to skip the import point, move the existing point to the import point location, or import the point.

01:18

Note that your choice determines what happens to all other import points with the same issue.

01:23

In this case, I (for Import) is entered.

01:28

You are then prompted to select the type of location points that the points should be imported as.

01:34

In this case, C (for Controlpoint) is entered.

01:40

Zoom to the control point you want to compare.

01:43

In the case of point number 4040, you can see the roughly two-inch difference between its original XY locations,

01:51

and the XY locations of the imported as-built point.
