Export points to a file using Point Layout for Revit

Export points from the current Revit view using Autodesk Point Layout.

00:03

Using Autodesk Point Layout, you can export all points from the current view in your Revit model.

00:10

When you export points and their corresponding coordinates, you have the option to use a direct exporter,

00:16

such as a DXF file, or a file extension, including CSV or TXT.

00:23

With a project open in Revit, from the ribbon, Autodesk Point Layout tab, select Export Points.

00:32

In the Export Points to File dialog, specify the Point Export Order and Output Units—in this case, Decimal Feet.

00:43

Under General Options, you can opt to export the points as a DXF, or a Drawing Exchange Format file.

00:52

In this case, leave Check for duplicate point #’s selected to ensure that there are no duplicates.

01:00

Also, if elevations are not important, you can select Set elevations to 100’.

01:08

Next, expand the Extension drop-down to select the file type.

01:14

In this case, use csv.

01:19

Then, set the Export Precision, or the number of decimal places, which is typically fine set to 4.

01:27

Select Coordinate System to ensure that the correct drawing coordinate system is selected,

01:33

and then click OK to return to the Export Points to File dialog.

01:39

Next, enter an Export File Name, such as “autodesk design points”,

01:45

and then set the File Location.

01:49

Finally, select BIM360 Field Create Attachment to link the attachment to an existing points file, issue, or task.

02:00

In the Select Project dialog, select the field project, and then link the attachment.

02:08

For now, click Cancel.

02:13

Back in the Export Points to File dialog, click OK to export the points.

02:19

In this example, a notification indicates that no duplicate points were found.

02:25

Click OK, and another notification opens with the total number of points exported.

02:32

To see the results of the export, in a browser window, locate and open the newly created file.

02:40

Here, you see the CSV file open in Excel, with the Point Number, XYZ, and Description for all the points in the view.

02:52

Now you can export points to a file using Autodesk Point Layout for Revit.
