Placing architectural model elements in Revit

Place model elements in your Revit architectural model.

In Revit, model elements define the geometry of your model and display instantly in all the views you place.

In this exercise, you use Revit to place a wall, a door, a desk, and a column in your architectural model.

To begin, from the Home page, click New and start a new project using one of the Architectural templates.

On the Architecture ribbon, in the Build panel, click Wall.

Expand the Type Selector to select the type of wall you want.

In the drawing area, click to place the starting point of your wall.

As you move your cursor, you can use the temporary dimension shown.

Click your cursor once the wall is the length you want, or simply type a dimension value and press ENTER.

When you are done, on the ribbon, click Modify to end the command, or press ESC on your keyboard twice.

Next, place a door.

On the Architecture tab, in the Build panel, click Door.

Expand the Type Selector and choose the type of door you want.

In the drawing area, hover the cursor over a wall and click to place the door.

Keep in mind that because doors are hosted components, they can only be placed in walls.

Once you have added the door, click Modify to end the command.

To place a desk, on the Architecture tab, in the Build panel, click Component.

Expand the Type Selector and select a Desk.

In the drawing area, you will notice that the cursor shows a preview of the desk.

Press the SPACEBAR to rotate the desk in 90-degree increments, if needed, before you place it.

To add the desk, simply click in the drawing area.

Once placed, click Modify to end the command.

Finally, place a column.

On the Architecture tab, in the Build panel, expand the Column drop-down and click Column: Architectural.

Expand the Type Selector and pick the type of column you want.

Note that columns are placed at the current level and extend down to the depth or height specified.

Below the ribbon, in the Options bar, choose Height, and then set the level to Level 1.
