In a Revit project, you can use the Duct tools to draw ductwork horizontally
00:10
or vertically to connect air terminals and mechanical equipment.
00:15
You also add duct fittings and accessories to your new ductwork.
00:20
First, to place a duct for this exercise, on the Systems ribbon, in the HVAC panel, click Duct.
00:29
In the Type Selector, select the Mitered Elbows/Tees family type.
00:35
In the Options Bar, specify the Width and Height.
00:40
Then, in the Options Bar or in the Properties palette, enter the Middle Elevation.
00:46
In the Properties palette, you can see that the Top Elevation and Bottom Elevation are automatically calculated.
00:54
Another way you can activate the Duct tool is to select a component with a duct connector.
01:01
Then, all you have to do is click the connector label.
01:05
This automatically activates the Duct tool with the size and elevation matching your connector.
01:12
For this example, you create a horizontal duct extending from the fan coil unit in Lobby 1001 plan south.
01:22
Click once, and then turn to plan east.
01:26
Keep in mind that another duct segment starts at the point where you clicked.
01:31
Reduce the size of the duct to 24" x 8".
01:36
Then, create another vertical segment and horizontal segment.
01:42
Note that Revit automatically adds the fittings based on the duct type routing preferences.
01:48
Press ESC once to end your duct run.
01:52
Next, change the duct type to Round Duct Taps.
01:58
Change the Diameter to 6" and the Middle Elevation to 9’.
02:05
In the contextual ribbon, with Automatically Connect and Add Vertical selected, click to place a horizontal segment.
02:14
Then create a segment to connect to the existing duct run.
02:18
Revit automatically adds a vertical segment to connect your two ducts.
02:24
When you are done, press ESC on your keyboard twice.
02:28
In most cases, when you place duct components, Revit places the fittings automatically.
02:35
However, should you ever need to manually add a duct fitting, you can find those tools on the Systems ribbon, in the HVAC panel.
02:45
As you have seen, Revit makes it easy to place ductwork with accessories like fire dampers in your project.
