Explore the settings within the Options Editor and use viewpoints to organize and navigate your model.

00:03

There are several key settings and options that can help you to customize Navisworks to better suit your workflow.

00:10

Adjusting these settings can help to ensure smoother navigation, better visualization, and optimal performance for your projects.

00:19

Start by clicking the Application button and selecting Options to open the Options Editor.

00:25

These global settings are persistent across all Navisworks sessions.

00:30

Expand the desired node, and click the option that you want to configure.

00:36

For example: Expand the Interface node and select the Display Units settings to customize the units used by Navisworks.

00:46

Keep in mind that changing the settings here does not change the distance of items.

00:53

Navisworks is a unitless software, so this simply changes what you see when you measure things.

00:60

The Sectioning page lets you control the display of sectioned caps.

01:05

Use the options on the Selection page to configure the way geometric objects are selected and highlighted.

01:13

On the Measure page, you can adjust the appearance and style of measure lines.

01:20

Use the Snapping page settings to adjust cursor snapping.

01:25

Scroll down to and expand the File Readers node,

01:28

where you can configure the file readers required to open native CAD and scanning application file formats in Navisworks.

01:36

For example, on the 3DS page, there are settings to convert hidden information and search for bitmap files.

01:45

On the DWF page, you can change the faceting factors in 3D models.

01:52

On the IFC page, you can change the conversion method used,

01:59

decide whether you want to convert spaces to hidden, show or skip them, as well as many more options.

02:07

Close the Options Editor.

02:10

A powerful feature that can help you to stay organized in Navisworks is viewpoints.

02:17

Viewpoints are saved views of specific locations in your model.

02:22

In this example, the ice rink model is at the Home view.

02:27

From the Viewpoint tab, Save, Load & Playback panel,

02:33

expand the Save Viewpoint drop-down, where you can choose to save a viewpoint or record an animation.

02:41

Saving multiple viewpoints in an animation allows you to walk through the model.

02:47

For example, from the Current Viewpoint drop-down, select Entry.

02:54

Then, click Play to play the Entry viewpoint animation.

02:59

This was set up as a recording of where the mouse was looking.

03:04

Use the Player controls to pause or stop the recording.

03:10

From the Current Viewpoint list, switch to another viewpoint, such as Ground or Ice Rock Cafe.

03:20

Because the Ice Rock Cafe viewpoint was built using the Walk command,

03:24

you can walk around in your model, choose a different direction for your view, and walk through to that location.

03:32

If you want to save that viewpoint, click Save Viewpoint and give it a new name.
