Create design option sets and options

Utilize design option sets to manage tentative designs within the same model.

00:03

In this file, we'll create an alternative layout for the upper floor.

00:08

So we'll go to the level two floor plan.

00:11

We can see we currently have some petitions laying out the rooms on the upper floor,

00:15

but we'd like to try an alternative arrangement.

00:18

So to do this, we'll go to the manage ribbon tab

00:21

and from the design options panel, we'll choose design options.

00:25

So currently there are no design options in the model.

00:28

So I choose to create a new option set

00:31

and we'll select option set one that we just created

00:33

and we'll rename this to be the upper floor.

00:39

So now we have that option set created.

00:41

We have option one

00:43

and we'll choose to create a new option which will be option two

00:46

and these will act as containers for our alternative layouts.

00:50

So we choose close

00:52

and currently looking at the manage ribbon tab here,

00:54

we can see that the main model is the active design option.

00:57

And this means that we can select all of the objects

00:59

and edit the objects that are in the main model.

01:02

We need to select the objects that we want to create alternatives from

01:06

and then add these into our design options.

01:09

So we'll select all of the petitions at this level.

01:13

I'll just deselect the tag here, which we can't add to the option itself.

01:18

And now going back to the manage ribbon tab,

01:20

we'll choose add to set from the design options panel.

01:25

We can see this prompts us to add it into the upper floor option set

01:28

and we have both option one and two checked.

01:31

So when we choose, OK,

01:33

the objects that we had selected will be moved from the main

01:36

model and a copy placed into both option one and option two.

01:40

So we'll choose, OK.

01:42

And now the main model is still the current design option,

01:45

which means that we cannot select the petitions or the doors or any

01:48

of the objects that we've added into our options at the moment.

01:51

However, we can still select the other objects.

01:54

So in order to create our alternative layout, we need to set the option active.

01:58

So I choose option two.

02:01

Now we can see that the main model is grayed

02:02

out and we can no longer select those objects,

02:05

but we can now start to edit the petitions to create our alternative layout.

02:09

So from the modify ribbon tab,

02:11

I choose to trim, extend single element tool.

02:14

I can still select the object in the main model and extend this wall up to it.

02:18

Now, I can select this wall and we'll extend this one down.

02:23

We'll choose the door

02:24

and we'll pick a new host, which can be this wall here.

02:30

And now we'll delete this, this angled wall. So we have our first design change.

02:35

We'll pick a new host and place this door on this side of the petition.

02:40

And now we can delete out some of these walls and stretch these back

02:43

and create our alternative layout.

02:46

This door will move into this wall here

02:48

and we'll create a new door

02:51

to go into this room.

02:54

Finally, we'll take this door and move it to a different position in the wall.

03:01

So we now have our alternative layout

03:03

looking at the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

03:06

We can see we have the design options down here too

03:09

and we can see we're currently working on option two.

03:12

So I can choose the drop down list from here

03:15

and swap back to the main model.

03:17

And when I'm looking at the main model, so to go back to the manage ribbon tab,

03:22

we're looking at the main model,

03:24

we can currently see option one

03:26

and that's because option one has been set as the primary option.

03:31

And this means that when we're editing the main model,

03:34

the primary option is the option that we'll see

03:36

and this acts as the default option.

03:40

It's going back to the design options.

03:43

We could choose option two here

03:45

and choose to make this the primary option.

03:48

We have a warning that our tag may need to be updated but will continue and close.

03:53

And we can see now that although we're still editing the main model,

03:56

we're now looking at option two

03:58

as that's been set to be the primary option

04:01

and to see option one, we need to set that as the active option.

04:07

So I'll go back to the main model

04:09

and I'd like to create another alternative for the roof.

04:12

So I'll go to the design options once more

04:15

and we'll choose to create a new option set.

04:18

We'll rename this to be Ruf

04:22

and then we'll create a new option.

04:25

So we choose close.

04:27

Now, looking at the list of design options,

04:29

we can see we have the roof option set and the upper floor option set.

04:34

I'll select the roof

04:36

and from the managed ribbon tab will choose add to set.

04:40

Now, we make sure that we got the roof option set selected

04:44

and we can add this into

04:45

option one and option two,

04:47

but I'll actually uncheck option two. So we've added it just to option one.

04:52

So I'll choose, ok,

04:54

once again, as we have the main model active,

04:57

we can see the primary version of the roof option so we can see it here.

05:01

However, when I change to option two,

05:03

the roof will actually disappear.

05:05

So I'll create a new roof first,

05:08

I'll switch on the underlay of the floor below to help me sketch out the roof.

05:13

And now from the architecture ribbon tab,

05:15

I'll choose the roof by footprint or,

05:19

and as we're creating this, whilst working in option two of the roof,

05:23

it will automatically be placed into that design option.

05:27

So I'll create a rectangle

05:30

with a 1 ft offset

05:32

and we'll draw that around our existing walls.

05:39

I'll change the slope to be two in 12.

05:41

And now when I choose, finish edit mode, that roof will be created.

05:45

I'm going to the 3D view,

05:46

we can see the roof that we've created for our option.

05:51

Going back to option one or the roof set, we can see the original roof

05:55

and going back to the main model.

05:57

We can then see the option one roof as that's set

06:00

to be the primary option in our roof option set.
