Keyboard shortcuts in Revit

Use and modify keyboard shortcuts.

00:04

You can use keyboard shortcuts to access any tool available in the ribbon,

00:08

the File tab, contextual menus, certain dialogs, and several other locations.

00:15

Unlike other CAD software, Revit does not display a command bar,

00:21

so you have to type the shortcuts on the fly to activate the tools you want.

00:26

To complete this exercise, open the Snowden Towers Sample Architectural.rvt sample file from the Revit Samples folder.

00:38

Use the Project Browser to open the L1 floor plan view, and then zoom into the northeast corner of the building.

00:49

To select multiple elements, press and hold CTRL as you click each element.

00:57

For example, press CTRL and select the walls and doors in the Toilet room.

01:04

To remove an element from your selection set, press SHIFT and choose the element, such as some of the doors.

01:16

To make a copy of an element, press CTRL while dragging the element.

01:24

To flip the exterior direction of a selected wall or rotate a selected element in 90-degree increments, press the SPACEBAR.

01:38

To display the Visibility/Graphics Overrides dialog, type “VG”.

01:47

To zoom the view to fit in the current drawing window, type “ZF”.

01:54

To open a project file, press CTRL+O.

02:02

To save a project, press CTRL+S.

02:09

Lastly, you can customize any tool in Revit.

02:14

On the View ribbon, in the Windows panel, expand the User Interface drop-down and click Keyboard Shortcuts.

02:23

Here, you can search commands to see what shortcuts are assigned.

02:28

If you want, you can assign or remove shortcuts for certain commands.

02:33

Keep in mind that any modifications you make to the Revit user interface or keyboard shortcuts

02:39

apply only to your Revit workstation.

02:43

You now know how to use Revit keyboard shortcuts, so you can more efficiently design your building model.
