About Informed Design product definitions in Revit

Describe the advantages for using Inventor product definitions through the Informed Design add-in for Revit.

00:03

The Autodesk Informed Design Add-in for Revit allows designers to use products with constraints

00:09

defined by the manufacturers in their design models.

00:12

In the past, product manufacturers encountered difficulties when attempting to share their product model information

00:19

directly from Inventor.

00:21

This often resulted in having to remodel the products in Revit from scratch.

00:26

With Informed Design, however, you can load published Inventor product definitions directly into Revit.

00:32

These product definitions contain predefined Inventor content with applied product rule sets.

00:39

This allows you to configure the product to suit your design requirements

00:43

while still respecting the design parameters set by the product manufacturer.

00:47

Also, you avoid the usual process of creating design elements from scratch for the Revit model.

00:54

In this example, staircases and balconies need to be added into a room in a building model.

00:60

When the Informed Design Add-in is installed, you can see the Informed Design tab on the Revit ribbon.

01:07

Also note that the plan view is active, but it is also helpful to create a section view as well.

01:13

From the Informed Design tab, you can either insert manufacturer's products as loadable Revit families (.rfa files),

01:20

or configure replacement variations for any already placed instances of Informed Design Revit Families.
