Create view templates

Create and assign view templates.

00:03

We're looking at the floor two plan view

00:06

and looking in the project browser here,

00:08

we can see that we have a floor two dimensions and a floor two furniture plan as well.

00:13

I'll open both these views

00:17

and looking at each of the views,

00:18

we can see that they display the objects on level two in different ways.

00:23

So the furniture plan here has colors applied to the furniture in the rooms.

00:27

The dimensions plan here has the furniture hidden

00:30

and just shows the detail required to place dimensions.

00:35

And the floor two floor plan

00:37

has everything displayed including these section markers and elevation markers.

00:43

Now,

00:43

we need to create similar dimensions and furniture views for floors three and four.

00:50

The first, I'll swap back to the floor two dimensions plan.

00:54

And before we create the view template,

00:56

we need to apply a black solid field to the walls.

00:59

So to do this, we'll click the edit button next to the visibility graphic overrides.

01:05

And now in the model categories here, we'll search for walls

01:09

and now we can click the override button

01:12

under the cut patterns here

01:15

and we'll set the pattern to be a solid fill

01:18

and then we can click the color swatch and pick the color black

01:22

and now click OK

01:24

to save the color,

01:25

then OK, to save the override.

01:28

And they're finally OK?

01:30

To save the changes that we've made to the visibility graphic overrides.

01:36

And now we can see all of those walls are colored in black.

01:38

We'll create the view template from this view.

01:42

So to do this, we'll go to the view ribbon tab

01:45

and from the graphics panel here, we'll click the view template, drop down

01:49

and then pick create template from current view.

01:53

We need to give it a name first. So we'll call this dimensions plan

02:00

and then we'll click OK?

02:02

And we'll go to the view template properties now.

02:04

So we can see we have several view templates in the bottle

02:07

and the dimensions plan. One is selected

02:10

looking at the list of parameters. We can see that we have the view scale,

02:14

detail level,

02:15

visibility,

02:16

graphic overrides for all of the different categories as

02:19

well as other parameters such as the color schemes

02:23

and looking at the include column here, we can see that they're all selected,

02:26

which means that when we apply this view template,

02:29

all of these options will be applied to that view.

02:32

I'll unselected the scale at the top here,

02:34

which means that when we apply this view template,

02:36

the scale of the view would not be changed.

02:40

So we click OK to save this dimensions plans template.

02:45

Now we need to create the dimension views for floors three and four.

02:49

So to do this, we'll go to the view ribbon tab here and from the create panel,

02:53

we'll click the plan views, drop down

02:56

and then click floor plans.

02:58

And now from the bottom here, we'll unselected, do not duplicate existing views.

03:04

And now in the list of views, we can choose floor three and four and then click. Ok.

03:09

And now looking in the project browser,

03:11

we can see we have new views for floor three and floor four.

03:14

So right, click over floor four and choose rename

03:19

and we'll name this to be floor four dimensions.

03:25

Now to apply the view template, we'll go to the view vin tab and on the graphics panel,

03:30

we'll click the view templates drop down

03:32

and click apply template to current view.

03:36

So now we can select the dimensions, plan template

03:39

and then click, OK

03:41

to apply that template to the view.

03:43

And we can see now that all of the furniture has been switched off

03:46

and we have the override to display the walls in black as well.

03:51

Now let's do the same for floor three.

03:53

So we'll open up the view

03:56

and now we'll right click over it

03:58

and choose rename

03:60

and we'll name this floor three dimensions.

04:06

And now as an alternative way to apply the template, we can right click over the view

04:11

and choose apply template properties.

04:15

And again, we can pick the dimensions plan template

04:18

and then click, OK.

04:20

And that will be applied to this view as well.

04:23

So now we have the floor three,

04:25

floor four and floor two dimensions plans all being displayed the same.

04:30

However, the views are not locked to the view template at the moment.

04:36

So for example, here in, in floor four, if I click the edit button next to visibility,

04:41

graphic overrides

04:42

and we scroll down to the walls category. Here,

04:45

we can click the override that's coloring the walls black.

04:49

And then here if we click on the color swatch and change it to blue

04:54

and then we can click OK to save the new override

04:57

and then OK to safety, visibility graphics

04:60

and we can see the walls in this view have been changed to be blue.

05:03

However, in the other views here,

05:05

they're still shown in black.

05:08

So now I'll swap to the floor two furniture plan

05:11

and we'll create a view template of this view here.

05:13

So from the view ribbon tab on the graphics panel,

05:16

we'll click the view templates drop down

05:18

and then click create the template from current view.

05:22

I'm wondering this furniture plan.

05:28

Um We won't make any changes here. So we'll click OK to save the new view template.

05:34

And now we need to create the furniture plan views for floors three and four.

05:38

So we'll go back to the view ribbon tab and from the plan views drop down,

05:41

we'll click floor plans

05:44

and again, we'll uncheck the do not duplicate existing views option here

05:48

and then choose floor three and floor four

05:51

and click. OK, to create those new views.

05:54

So once again will right click and rename this

05:56

first view here to be floor four furniture.

06:01

Now let's rename

06:03

the floor three view as well. So we right click,

06:06

choose rename and call this floor three furniture.

06:12

And now

06:13

to apply the view template to this view,

06:15

we will do this through the properties palette.

06:18

So scrolling down, we can get to the identity data panel

06:23

and we see we have a parameter here for view template.

06:25

So we'll click the none button next to this.

06:28

Then we can see the view templates that we have available.

06:31

So we choose the furniture plan template

06:33

and then click, OK?

06:36

And we can see this few updates to match the template.

06:38

So we have the furniture and the walls all

06:40

colored along with the color scheme for the rooms,

06:44

but actually looking at the properties palate.

06:46

Now a number of parameters are grayed out.

06:49

And if I click to edit the visibility graphics here,

06:52

we can see that these are also grayed out.

06:55

And this is because the view is now locked to the view template.

06:58

And the only way we can make changes to this is to edit the view template.

07:03

So now I'll open up the floor three furniture plan

07:07

and again from the properties palette here,

07:08

we'll click the none button next to view template.

07:12

And select the furniture plan template

07:14

and then click, OK.

07:16

And we can see that we've got that applied to this view as well. Now,

07:19

so I'll swap back to the floor two furniture plan

07:21

because although we created the template from this view,

07:24

we didn't apply it to this view.

07:27

So again, in the properties palette, click the none button next to view template

07:31

and then choose the furniture plan template

07:33

and click, OK, to assign this to the floor two furniture view.

07:37

So now if we need to make changes to the way these objects work,

07:41

we need to edit the view template.

07:44

So I'll close down the views to leave just the three furniture plans open.

07:49

And now from the view ribbon tab on the windows panel here,

07:52

we'll click tile views so that we can see all three of those.

07:56

And then from the navigation bar here, we'll click zoom all to fit.

08:01

Now, if you want to change the color of the furniture,

08:04

we'll go to the view ribbon tab

08:07

and from the view templates drop down here, we'll click manage view templates.

08:13

Now we can see we have all of the templates shown in the list here.

08:16

So let's filter this to show just the templates for plan views.

08:20

Now we can pick the furniture plan template

08:23

and then looking down the list of parameters here.

08:26

We can click the edit button next to the VG override filters.

08:31

And this we can see now provides the orange color to the furniture.

08:35

So we'll click on the pattern over right here

08:38

and then we'll click the orange color swatch here

08:41

and change it to be green.

08:44

And now we can click OK, to save that color and OK to save the override,

08:49

we'll click OK to close the visibility graphics. And then finally OK, once more

08:53

to update the view template.

08:56

And now in all three of those views that have the view template applied,

08:59

we can see the furniture has turned green

09:03

and that now completes creating the view templates for this model.

Video transcript
