We can see the external walls that need editing are shaded in gray in the view
00:09
as walls are system families, we cannot load a new wall type into a project.
00:14
So we must duplicate an existing wall type and edit it to suit
00:20
if I select one of the existing external walls we have in the model,
00:24
we can see from the type selector at the top of the properties pallet
00:28
that this is a basic wall
00:30
and a generic eight inch wall type.
00:35
The other wall types that are available from the type selector
00:37
have all been created within the template that was used to build this model from
00:43
the wall that we're going to create
00:44
requires an external insulation system on metal stud
00:48
and that's not available in the type selector to us.
00:51
So we would duplicate an existing wall and create it
00:55
with only the external walls selected.
00:58
I will choose edit type from the top of
00:60
the properties pallette to access the wall's type properties.
01:05
And across the top, we can see the type name here, generic eight
01:08
inch and next to it, the duplicate button
01:10
that we'll use to create our new wall type
01:13
So we'll go ahead and click duplicate
01:17
and then we'll assign the new name of external wall
01:20
eifs on metal stud
01:26
and we'll select OK
01:27
to create that new wall type.
01:31
So now we need to edit the assembly of the wall to add in the extra layers
01:35
and to do this
01:37
from the type parameters on the construction panel,
01:40
we'll click edit next to structure
01:42
to access the edit assembly settings.
01:47
So here we can see the layers that make up the current wall.
01:50
And at the bottom of the box, we can click the preview button
01:54
to enable the preview which will make it easier for us
01:57
to see what happens as we add our new layers in.
02:02
So we'll start by changing the thickness of this existing layer to six inches.
02:08
And before we add the new layers, we can see at the top it's labeled exterior.
02:12
And at the bottom is the interior side,
02:16
we can see we have the layer numbers
02:18
showing their order.
02:20
And then below that, we have the buttons to insert and move new layers around.
02:24
So we'll start by inserting a new layer
02:27
and this will appear in layer two just above our existing layer
02:30
will set the thickness to be three quarters of an inch
02:38
and we can see that appear in the preview
02:40
on top of the existing layer.
02:43
So now we'll add our next layer in. So we'll click insert,
02:46
we'll get another layer and this is going to represent our external installation.
02:50
So
02:51
we'll change this to two inches thick
02:54
and we can see that here in the preview. So
02:56
now we move that up to above the core boundary.
03:01
So making sure we have layer two selected
03:05
from the buttons beneath the layers, we'll click the up button
03:08
to move this above the core boundary.
03:12
And we can see in the preview now the green line
03:15
which is indicating the location of the core boundary within the layers of the wall.
03:21
So now we need to add the internal finish. So we'll select layer five,
03:26
the core boundary layer
03:28
and we'll choose insert which will add a new layer just above that.
03:32
So we'll click the down button to move that below the core boundary
03:36
and we'll set its thickness to be half an inch.
03:42
So now we can see that it's appeared in the preview
03:46
and we can see
03:47
the green line for the lower core boundary and obviously the upper one as well.
03:51
So next, we'll assign the materials into those layers that we've just created.
03:57
Looking at the material column.
03:59
We can see they are currently set to have the by category material.
04:03
And to change this, we'll need to launch the material browser
04:07
and select a new material.
04:09
So we'll select by category on layer one
04:12
and from the ellipses button that appears
04:15
we'll launch the material browser.
04:17
We can see there's a lot of materials available in this project.
04:20
So to make it easier.
04:22
We'll use the search bar at the top and we'll search for installation
04:27
and from the materials that then appear in the left.
04:29
We'll choose the eifs exterior insulation material
04:35
and we can see his properties here, but we don't need to make any changes.
04:38
So we'll click. OK.
04:39
And this will be assigned into layer one
04:42
and we can see that in the preview as well.
04:46
So now for the next layer which is layer three,
04:48
we'll click by category again and then from the ellipses button,
04:51
we'll launch the material browser.
04:54
And this time we'll search for plywood
05:00
and then we'll choose to apply with sheet in material
05:03
and click. OK to assign this on to the next layer.
05:06
And once again, we can see that appearing in the preview as well.
05:11
So for layer four, we'll choose by category and again, launch the material browser.
05:16
And this time we're going to search for the stud material
05:20
and we choose the metal stud layer.
05:23
And once again, we'll click OK to assign this into that layer.
05:28
So for the final layer, this is going to be our Gypsum wallboard.
05:31
So once again, we'll launch the material browser
05:34
and search for Gypsum this time.
05:38
And then we will select the chips and more
05:39
material
05:40
and click OK, to assign that to layer six, our final layer.
05:46
And then we can see in the preview that we've
05:47
got all of those materials applied onto the layers.
05:52
So finally, we now need to assign the function into each layer.
05:55
And we can see that they're currently all set to structure.
05:59
And if we select the function on layer one,
06:02
we get the drop down list.
06:04
And we can see that we've got five functions here.
06:06
Structure, substrate, thermal layer, finish one and finish two.
06:12
And in the parenthesis,
06:13
we can see numbers 1 to 5 and these denote the
06:16
priority order for when we make junctions between different walls.
06:21
Number one is the highest priority and,
06:23
and we'll cut through objects of a lower priority
06:26
to create the joint between those different walls.
06:29
So for our exterior installation,
06:32
we'll choose finish one which has the priority of four.
06:36
For the ply with che,
06:37
then
06:37
we'll assign that in to be this substrate function.
06:41
The metal stud layer will leave that a structure with a priority of one.
06:44
And for the Gypsum
06:45
board, we'll set that to be finished two
06:48
with a priority of five.
06:52
So now that we have all of our layers created with their thickness and materials,
06:56
we'll click OK
06:57
to save those changes,
07:00
we're back in the tight properties. So we don't need to make any more changes here.
07:04
We can see we have the exterior function
07:06
already selected from the wall that we duplicated. So we'll choose OK once more
07:11
to now save the changes to this wall time
07:15
and that's been applied to the wall that
07:17
we had selected when we started this process.
07:20
However, if I click off of this wall,
07:22
we'll see that it's still shaded in gray
07:25
as they were originally.
07:26
And this is due to the view being set to a coarse detail level.
07:31
So to change this,
07:32
we'll go to the view control bar at the bottom of the view
07:35
and then we'll select medium
07:37
from the detail level
07:40
and then zooming into the wall here,
07:42
we can now see the layers that were created onto that
07:44
wall type and then they'll being displayed in the view.
07:49
So this leaves us now just to change the rest of the external walls in this model.
07:54
So we'll select one of those
07:57
and then from the right click menu,
07:59
we'll choose, select all instances visible in view.
08:03
And this will now select the remainder of those external generic eight inch walls.
08:10
So now from the type selector,
08:12
we can scroll up and we can find the external
08:15
wall eifs on metal stud that we've just created.
08:18
And
08:19
it's also in the most recently used types list. So
08:22
we just need to select that
08:25
and then that wall type is applied to these walls.
08:28
So we'll click in space to deselect them.
08:31
And now zooming in,
08:32
we can see how those layers have been applied and
08:35
and the junctions that they're making with the existing walls.
08:38
And at the corner there
00:04
