Tutorial resources

These downloadable resources will be used to complete this tutorial:

00:03

In this exercise, you add wires to circuits using the Arc Wire and Chamfered Wire options,

00:10

and you edit wire parameters through circuit path adjustments.

00:14

To begin, on the Systems ribbon, in the Electrical panel, notice there are Wire tools.

00:20

However, in this exercise, you place wires on circuits automatically.

00:25

In the drawing area, zoom to a room and hover the cursor over a receptacle.

00:30

Press TAB to highlight the circuit, and then click to select it.

00:34

A preview of all the wires appears in the drawing area.

00:38

There are also now wire icons in the drawing area and tools on the Modify | Electrical Circuits contextual ribbon.

00:46

The wire instance parameters or type parameters can be adjusted after placing them.

00:52

While you cannot manually adjust the Wire Size, you can adjust the circuit path, which affects the Wire Size.

00:59

With the circuit selected, in the contextual ribbon, click Edit Path.

01:04

Revit enters Edit Path mode, which allows you to select the Path Mode—in this example, the options are Farthest Device and All Devices.

01:14

You can also adjust the Path Offset if needed.

01:18

To add wires to the circuit, on the contextual ribbon, Convert to Wire panel, click either Arc Wire or Chamfered Wire.

01:26

After placing the wires, you can select and adjust them using the dot controls.

01:32

In the drawing area, select path lines and move them as needed to represent the circuit path from the devices to the panel.

01:39

In the Properties palette, observe the Wire Size to see how the path affects the size.

01:44

You now know how to add wires to circuits and edit wire parameters in your building design.
