Being able to edit the individual faces, edges and points that make up a form
00:09
allows us to easily create more complex shapes.
00:13
Currently, if I move my mouse to the center of a face here,
00:16
we can see that there's no preselection highlight
00:19
and in order to select any objects, I need to click on the edge of them.
00:24
So looking at the status bar at the bottom here, on the right hand side,
00:28
I'll enable the select element by face option,
00:32
which means we can now move to the center of an object here
00:35
and click to select it rather than having to pick one of its edges.
00:41
Once selected,
00:42
we have the 3D drag controls available to us to manipulate that face.
00:47
I'm going over the blue arrow head here
00:49
and dragging
00:50
it will constrain it vertically so we can move this up and down but not to the side.
00:57
And we can also edit the temporary dimensions here to make it more accurate.
01:02
So I'll set this one to be 50 ft.
01:05
The green and red arrowheads will constrain the face to the horizontal X and Y axis.
01:12
And we've also got the planar constraints here in the corner,
01:15
which means we can move it in both X and Y.
01:17
At the same time,
01:22
I'll go to the quick access toolbar and just undo this last edit.
01:27
And we can use these same controls now on edges and the vertex points too. So
01:32
I'll select the back edge of the form here.
01:35
And we can see we have those 3D controls again
01:38
and I'll use the blue Z axis constraint here to drag this vertically up.
01:42
And we can see that that's applied a slope to that top face here.
01:47
We can also edit temporary dimensions to be more accurate.
01:51
And equally, we can snap to other objects. So
01:53
I'll drag this one back down
01:55
and we can snap to the edge of the connected solid form here.
01:59
So we then have that top face sloping backwards to meet it.
02:05
We can also use these controls to manipulate points.
02:07
So on the corner here, we'll select the point
02:10
and this now will control the three faces that connect that, that corner.
02:15
We'll use the green arrow head here and we'll drag this in
02:18
and we'll use the alignment tools here to align to the existing edge in the model.
02:23
We can come to the other side and repeat this. So we'll select this point
02:27
and drag it in so that we have the alignment aligning with the face behind this.
02:33
And we can see now that we've got quite a complex form on the end here
02:37
with it sloping and the edges tapering in at the top,
02:40
resulting in some complex curved faces.
02:45
We can also use some of the standard modified tools such as move, rotate and scale.
02:52
So if I select on the inset face at the end of the model here
02:55
and then from the modify form ribbon on the modify panel,
02:59
we'll click on the scale tool.
03:02
And then for the origin point,
03:04
we'll click on the end of the reference plane here which is in the middle of this face.
03:08
And then we'll click to the right hand side
03:11
and then we can drag this back in to make it smaller. And
03:14
I'll type 25 ft in a dimension here to set that an accurate size.
03:19
And we can see now that that face is scowled in
03:22
and the connected faces have all tapered and stretched to take up the new form.
03:28
Next, we'll look at the X ray mode for editing forms and
03:32
looking at the canopy that's been swept around the edge of the opening here.
03:35
We'd like to manipulate this shape.
03:38
So I'll select any part of it, just one of the edges here
03:41
and then go into the modify form ribbon
03:43
on the form element panel.
03:45
You can see we have the X ray mode and I'll click to enable this.
03:50
And we can see then that the solid form is now transparent
03:53
and looking a little closer.
03:55
We can see the profile and the edges and points that make up that profile here.
04:00
And I can select one of those points now
04:03
and
04:03
this time we'll edit the temporary dimension. So we'll change this to be 1 ft
04:08
and we can see that that's moved that point in
04:10
and has tapered the edge of the canopy here.
04:13
And even though it's transparent,
04:14
we can see that that's been applied around the entire canopy.
04:19
Now with it reelected, we'll go up to the modify form ribbon again.
04:23
And from the form element panel,
04:25
we can see that we've got the option to add an edge.
04:28
So I'll click on this.
04:29
And now as I go over this end face here, we can see the preview of an edge being added in.
04:34
So
04:35
I'll click to place this in
04:39
and we can see now that it's prompting us to place more ages. So
04:42
I'll click, modify to finish this.
04:44
And we can see now that we've got an extra point in the profile here
04:49
and I can now select this point and
04:51
using the drag controls here, we can drag this out
04:54
to manipulate the shape of that profile. So
04:57
once we've got it into the location, we need,
04:60
we can see that reflected through it all.
05:05
Now with it selected,
05:07
we'll go up to the modify form ribbon
05:09
and will disable the x-ray mode.
05:12
And we can see that now back in its full solid form,
05:20
looking at the main block,
05:22
we can edit the two D profile that makes up the end of this.
05:26
So I'll select part of the form
05:29
and then from the modify form ribbon
05:31
in the mode panel, we see that we can have the edit profile mode.
05:35
So I'll click to enable this.
05:38
Now, I need to click the end of the profile that I want to edit.
05:41
So we'll click on the end here.
05:43
And now we can see we have the sketch lines of that profile
05:46
and looking up at the modify edit profile ribbon.
05:49
We've got the sketching tools here. So
05:51
I'll enable the line tool
05:54
and now zooming in a little,
05:57
we'll start to
05:58
draw away from the corner here and I'll type in the 11
06:01
ft for the dimension to set the end of this line.
06:04
And now coming down at 100 and 35 degrees,
06:07
we'll snap to the intersection of the vertical line
06:10
to create a sham ford corner.
06:13
So I haven't got that line created. I'll click modify to finish
06:17
and now I'll select the line
06:19
and from the modify panel here,
06:21
I'll click on the mirror, pick access tool
06:24
and then select the vertical reference plane here
06:27
to mirror this to the other side of the profile.
06:30
So now we just need to tidy up the corners to create an enclosed shape.
06:34
So from the modify ribbon on the modify panel,
06:37
we'll click the trim extend to corner tool
06:40
and now we just need to click on the bits of the line that we need to keep
06:45
to create an enclosed profile as we want it.
06:49
So I haven't got that shape. We'll go up to the ribbon here and click finish edit mode
06:53
to finish editing that profile
06:55
and straight away,
06:56
we can see that new profile incorporated into the end here
06:59
giving us the tapered faces going up to the middle.
07:03
So we'll repeat this at the other end of the form. So
07:06
with an edge selected,
07:07
we'll go back to the modify form ribbon and click edit profile.
07:11
And again, we just need to click this in to confirm that's the profile.
07:16
And this time, I'll choose the pick lines tool
07:19
and now I can pick on the Shatford edges
07:22
on the end that we've already done
07:24
and these will be projected into the profile.
07:27
So I haven't got those. We now just need to use our trim extender corner tool once more
07:31
to come and tidy up the corners and make that in closed shape.
07:38
And then we click finish edit mode
07:41
to finish editing the profile.
07:42
And again, we can see that same profile added to the opposite end.
07:47
And we've now got these shamed
07:48
edges across the corner here.
07:52
Finally looking at the roof here, we want to lower down the front edge.
07:57
So I'll select the point at the top of the roof here.
08:00
We can see that we've got the 3D drag controls, but
08:03
they're currently set to be in local orientation
08:07
and this is shown by the arrowhead B in orange.
08:10
So I'll press the space bar on the keyboard
08:12
and that will swap them to global orientation.
08:15
And now I'll just use the blue arrowhead here to drag
08:18
this vertically down to the mid point of this edge.
08:21
And then once we've released that,
08:23
we can see we've now got that slope coming across the front of the roof here.
08:27
And that gives us quite a complex profile
08:29
and also finishes the editing that we need to make to our mass.
