Adding an extruded roof

Convert a sketch profile to a roof element. Apply the Join/Unjoin Roof tool to project a roof to the wall boundaries. Attach walls to the underside of a roof element.

Step-by-step guide

Convert a sketch profile to a roof element. Apply the Join/Unjoin Roof tool to project a roof to the wall boundaries. Attach walls to the underside of a roof element.

  1. Open the project RF-Arch_Extrude Roofs_ RVT20201.rvt. In the Section 1 view, a roof created across a corridor between a main building and a garage needs some work.

  1. Open the 3D view and select the roof.
  2. In the Modify | Roofs tab > Geometry panel, click Join/Unjoin Roof.

  1. To connect the roof to the garage, select the left end of the roof and the garage wall.

  1. Press and hold SHIFT and the mouse wheel while dragging to orbit around the 3D model and repeat the process.
  2. Select the roof, and click Join/Unjoin Roof again.
  3. Select the right end of the roof and the wall of the main building.

The roof is successfully trimmed.

  1. Zoom in and select the two corridor walls.
  2. In the Modify | Walls tab > Modify Wall panel, click Attach Top/Base.

  1. Select the roof element. The walls are attached to the bottom of the roof.
