Create a dormer opening.

00:05

So now we'll insert a window into the front wall. Just here.

00:08

We'll go back to the architecture ribbon tab from the build panel.

00:11

We'll choose the window tool

00:14

looking at type selector.

00:15

We can see we have the window casement, double 57 by 48 inch type selected. So

00:21

we'll have it over the front of the dorma wall here, we can see the preview.

00:24

So we'll click to place this into the wall

00:26

and then we'll choose modify to finish placing the window.

00:31

We sit slightly off center. So we need to align that to the middle of the window

00:36

and that will be easier if we go back to the roof floor plan view.

00:40

And in this view, we can see that the window is not centered within the wall.

00:44

So we'll go to the modify ribbon tab

00:46

and from the modify panel here, we'll click the align tool.

00:49

We'll use the ridge line in the middle of the roof as the reference

00:53

and then we can select the reference plane in the middle of the window.

00:56

And those two will now be a line

00:58

and it's in the center of the wall as we want

01:01

So now we're ready to create the dorma opening within the existing roof.

01:05

But first, let's switch back to the 3D view

01:08

and we can see now we've got the dorma modeled on top of the main roof.

01:12

I'll enable a 3D section so we can review this a bit better.

01:16

So from the view cube, we'll right click

01:18

and then from the orient to view menu, we'll choose the section sub menu

01:22

and then choose the dorma section view.

01:25

And this will enable a section box and rotate

01:27

the view round to match that two D section.

01:30

If I zoom in here a little bit and then

01:32

we'll all bit the view back around slightly.

01:34

We can see the door of construction sitting on the main roof

01:38

and with the main river going through,

01:40

we can see why we need to create the door opening.

01:44

It will be easier to create the door opening in the plan view,

01:47

but also useful to see the 3D view at the same time.

01:50

So

01:51

I'll go to the view ribbon tab.

01:53

We're from the windows panel, I'll click the tile windows tool

01:56

and now we can see we have both views on the screen.

01:59

So we just need to adjust these so that we can see the correct area for them both.

02:05

Now making sure the roof plan view is active.

02:08

We'll go to the architecture ribbon tab and from the openings panel,

02:11

we'll click the dorma opening tool

02:15

first. We need to choose the roof to create the door we're opening in.

02:19

So I'll click on the main roof here

02:22

and now we're in the edit sketch mode and we have the pick roof wall edges,

02:26

tool active.

02:27

So

02:27

I'll select the inside edges of the three walls.

02:31

And as we pick on these, we can see the sketch line tracing along those walls.

02:36

And now we've done the walls.

02:36

We need to pick on the edges of the roof here to create the enclosed boundary.

02:40

So we'll pick the two edges up the top here.

02:45

So now we have all of the lines created.

02:47

We can see that they extend beyond the corners here

02:49

and we need it to be an enclosed boundary.

02:51

So

02:52

I'll use the trim extend to corner tool

02:55

and then we can work our way around the corners here, clicking on the each line

02:59

to create the enclosed boundary that we need.

03:05

So now we have that done.

03:06

We'll click the finish, edit mode from the edit sketch ribbon

03:09

and we can see that that opening has been created in the roof

03:13

and aligned with the walls in the door as we can see here in the 3d view.

03:18

So I'll close down the floor plan view. So we have just a 3d view active now

03:23

and we can see that that roof has been cut,

03:25

giving us the extra head height into the attic room here as we need,

03:30

looking at the window, we just need to move that up slightly.

03:33

So I'll select the window

03:35

and then from the property's pallet,

03:36

we change its cell height parameter to be 6 ft four inches.

03:42

And now we can see we have that Doma created

03:44

giving us the extra space that we need in the attic room.

01:51

03:09

and we can see that that opening has been created in the roof
