00:03
Looking at the model,
00:04
we'll create a new roof type for the main pitched roof on the building
00:09
will also swap the flat roof at the front
00:11
for an existing type that's already been created.
00:15
So we'll start by creating a new roof type.
00:18
So first, I'll select the main roof.
00:21
Now, looking at the type selector at the top of the properties pallet,
00:24
we can see that this is the generic 12 inch roof type
00:28
and to create a new roof type, we'll click the edit type button
00:32
to access the type parameters of this generic 12 inch roof.
00:37
And now at the top of the type parameters box,
00:39
we'll click duplicate to create the new type
00:43
and we'll name this one
00:44
wood rafter 10 inch slate tiles.
00:51
Then we'll click OK to save that name and a new type will be created.
00:56
Now, we need to edit the layers of the roof type.
00:59
So from the type parameters on the construction panel here,
01:02
we'll click the edit button next to the structure parameter
01:05
to access the edit assembly settings.
01:09
So in here, we can see we have the existing layer,
01:11
the 1 ft thick layer that makes up our generic 12 inch wall.
01:15
Before we make any changes,
01:17
we'll click on the preview button at the bottom left here as this will
01:20
make it easier for us to see those extra layers being added in.
01:25
First, we'll edit the existing layer
01:27
so we'll change its material. It's currently set to be by category.
01:31
So we'll click on here.
01:33
And now from the button that appears,
01:35
we'll click this to open up the material browser
01:39
at the top of the material browser here, we'll search for the term rafter
01:44
and then from the materials in the search results,
01:47
we'll select the structure with Joyce rafter with bat insulation.
01:52
Then we'll click. OK.
01:54
And then this will be assigned onto our first layer.
01:58
Next, we'll change the thickness.
01:59
So in the thickness column here, we'll change this to be 10 inches.
02:04
And now we're ready to add in the extra layers.
02:07
So we'll add two layers and at the bottom of the layer box here,
02:10
we'll click the insert button twice to add those two layers in.
02:15
And now we'll move those into the right position.
02:17
So I'll select the core boundary at layer one
02:20
and then we'll click the down button twice so that the two
02:23
new layers that we've added are now above the core boundary.
02:28
Now we need to edit our two new layers
02:30
to assign them the correct material and thickness.
02:33
So we'll start with layer one and we'll assign on the material.
02:36
So again, we'll click by category
02:38
and then open the material browser from the button that appears
02:43
in the search box at the top. We'll search for a roof
02:48
and then from the search results here,
02:49
we may need to scroll down a little bit but we can see the roof in slate material.
02:54
So we'll select this.
02:56
And now looking at its properties here on the graphics tab,
02:59
we can see that it doesn't have a foreground surface pattern applied.
03:04
So we'll apply one.
03:05
We'll click on where it says none.
03:08
And this will open up the fill patterns, dialer box.
03:11
And at the top here in the pattern type panel, we'll change it from draft into model.
03:16
And now we search for slate
03:20
and we can see now that we have this slate tiles fill pattern.
03:22
So we'll select this and say, OK to assign this on to the
03:26
foreground surface pattern.
03:29
And then we'll click OK again to assign this material onto the layer.
03:35
The next we change the thickness of the roofing slate layer
03:38
to be an inch and a half thick.
03:43
And now we can see that layer in the preview.
03:47
So we'll apply the material to the layer below.
03:49
And this is gonna be for the timber buttons that support the slates. So
03:54
we'll click on by category again
03:56
and then open up the material browser from the button that appears.
04:01
And now actually just beneath the roof and slate material that we've got selected,
04:05
we can see, we have softwood lumber.
04:06
So we'll select this one.
04:09
And now looking at its graphic properties here,
04:12
we want to add in a foreground cut pattern.
04:15
As we can see, there is none applied.
04:17
So we'll select none next to the pattern.
04:20
And then once the fill patterns opens up, we'll come and search for wood
04:25
and then we'll choose the wood one fill pattern
04:28
and then click OK
04:30
to assign this onto the foreground, cut fill pattern.
04:35
So now we'll click, OK to assign this material onto our layer.
04:40
And next, we'll change the thickness to be an inch and a quarter.
04:43
And then we can see that layer up here in the preview. Now,
04:47
now, finally, we just need to change the function.
04:49
So we'll set the timber patterns here to be a substrate
04:54
and then we'll set the slate tiles to be the finish four function.
04:60
And that's what we need to do in here.
05:01
So we'll click, OK to save the changes to the assembly
05:04
and then we'll click, OK again, to save the changes to the roof type.
05:08
And now we can see that that's been applied to
05:10
the roof that we had selected when we started the process
05:14
and zooming in a little here,
05:15
we can see the foreground surface pattern that we apply to the slate material.
05:21
Now, we just need to change the flat roof. So first, I'll select this
05:27
and now looking at the top of the properties palette,
05:29
we can see it's the generic nine inch roof here
05:32
and clicking on the type selector.
05:34
We can see we have various roofs available to us, including the one we just created.
05:39
We'll select the wood joist eight inch epdm membrane insulated type
05:45
and we can see that update in the model
05:47
and that completes the work we need to do to our roots.
04:49

04:54
and then we'll set the slate tiles to be the finish four function.
05:34

05:45
and we can see that update in the model
05:47
and that completes the work we need to do to our roots.
Create a new roof type and assign new roof types to existing roof elements.
The roof updates.
A new layer is added.
