In
00:04
the raid types are made up of many separate parts.
00:08
Each park contains a nested family and they combine together in
00:11
the railing type to give us the complete railing structure.
00:15
The vertical components of a railing are ballers
00:18
and posts
00:19
with the ballers
00:20
being repeated at regular intervals and the posts positioned at
00:24
the start or end of the railing or at corners.
00:26
When changing direction,
00:29
the ballers
00:29
and posts are 3d parametric families that are nested into the rain
00:33
type.
00:35
The horizontal components are referred to as raus with a non
00:39
continuous rail structure being used to create multiple horizontal components.
00:44
A top rail can be added along with hand rails at different heights.
00:49
And all the rail types use a profile family to define the shape of the rail,
00:53
which gives us lots of flexibility to define custom rail types.
00:59
Looking at the entrance lobby of the building here,
01:02
we can see that we have a balcony that we need to
01:04
have a handrail placed along to act as a guard rail.
01:08
And we also have some stairs in the back here
01:11
that we need to place a railing on.
01:13
I have the crops stairs 3d view already open.
01:16
So I'll swap to its tab to view this.
01:20
And in this view, we have the first floor slab set to be transparent,
01:24
so we can see the stairss better.
01:26
And we can see now on this back wall where
01:28
we need to create the railing along this run of stairs
01:33
to create the Roland. We'll need to make a sketch of its path
01:36
and it will be easier to do this in a plan view.
01:39
I already had the level two plan view open.
01:42
So I'll swap to this view
01:45
and here we can see the stairs and the back wall where we need to place the railing.
01:49
So to do this from the architecture ribbon tab on the circulation panel,
01:53
we'll click on the rail in tool,
01:58
looking at the type selector, we have the rolling handrail pipe type selected
02:02
and we need to create a new one.
02:04
So we'll click on the edit type to access its type properties
02:08
and then click duplicate to create a new type of rail in
02:12
and we'll name this
02:14
handrail war mount
02:20
and then we'll click OK to save that name in the new rail in type.
02:25
Now, we need to make a few changes in here and we'll start in the construction panel
02:30
and we'll edit the row structure first. So we'll click the edit button
02:34
and we can see now that we have all of the
02:36
rails that made up the pipes for that previous railing type.
02:39
So
02:40
we'll select the top one here and then from the bottom of the rails,
02:42
we'll click the delete button.
02:44
Then we can continue to click that until we've deleted all of those routes.
02:49
We'll click, ok to save those changes.
02:52
And now beneath this, we need to click, edit next to the baller
02:55
placement
02:56
as we need to remove the ballers
02:58
as well.
02:59
You can see, we also have some posts
03:02
and these, we can't delete. We need to click on the baller type here
03:06
and then scroll up and choose none.
03:08
And then moving down to the post, we'll repeat this for the start post
03:13
and then again for the corner post
03:16
and finally for the end post
03:19
and then we can click, ok, to save those changes
03:23
looking further down the box, we have the handrail one
03:27
panel here
03:28
and we can see the type is set to none.
03:30
So we'll click this and then from the button that appears,
03:33
we'll open up the type properties of the handrail families here.
03:37
And from the type list at the top, we'll click pipe wall mount
03:41
and then click, ok.
03:43
To assign that into hand row one,
03:46
we need to choose a position. So just above here, we'll click on none.
03:50
And from the drop down, we'll choose the right side for it to be positioned.
03:56
Now, finally moving up to the top row panel,
03:59
we can uncheck use top row
04:00
as we just need the pipe wall mount on the hand rail one created.
04:05
So we'll click, OK to save that new handrail type
04:08
and we can see that active in the type selector. Now,
04:11
looking at the sketch tools in the crate railing path ribbon here,
04:14
we have that set to be a straight line.
04:16
So we'll zoom into the stairs here and we'll
04:18
snap to the bottom of the string support here
04:21
and then moving across up the stairs,
04:24
we snapped to the top of the string.
04:26
Now that's got the path draw.
04:28
We need to make sure the railing is going to be hosted by the stairs.
04:32
So going back to the create railing driven here
04:35
from the tools panel, we'll click on the pick new host tool.
04:39
And now we just need to select the stairs
04:41
for that railing to be hosted by those stairs.
04:44
We can see we have the direction arrows from bottom to top now displayed as well.
04:49
So we'll click finish edit mode to create that rail in.
04:52
And now swapping back to the crops stairs, 3d view.
04:55
We can see that we have that railing along the back wall here.
