Place points two ways in Point Layout for Navisworks

Place points manually and automatically with the Place Points and Mark Selections tools.

00:03

Point Layout for Navisworks enables you to place additional points in your model either manually or automatically.

00:11

This is done using the Place Points and Mark Selections tools.

00:15

Begin with a model open in Navisworks.

00:19

On the Add-ins tab of the ribbon, click Autodesk Point Layout.

00:26

To place points manually, in the Point Layout dialog, select Place Points.

00:33

In the Point Placement dialog, enter a point number, description, system, and scale of the point.

00:40

Then, with this dialog still open, in the model, click to place each point on surfaces, corners, or edges.

00:49

To place points automatically, first, select specific geometry in your model.

00:55

Then, in the Point Layout dialog, click Mark Selections.

01:00

In the Mark selection dialog, specify what you want to mark on the selected objects, such as Geometry,

01:08

and in this case, choose to mark only the Top points.

01:14

Select and enter a description and point system, if necessary, then click OK to place the points.

01:21

This also works for anchor bolts, hangers, or stub-ups.

01:27

Here, the stub-ups are selected, and the Top Center is marked.

01:34

For hangers, which are made visible here in a different view with the floors hidden, there are a couple of options.

01:41

To mark an individual hanger, after selecting it, click Mark Selections.

01:48

Select Geometry, and then choose to mark the Rods on that geometry.

01:56

Zooming in, you see that the points have been placed.

02:02

You can also mark an entire selection set, such as this one for all hangers.

02:09

Again, mark the Rods, and now, all hangers in the project have points placed.

02:16

You can now adjust these points as needed, such as by changing the size and color.
