Here's a hint. Sections are Elevations. Elevations are Sections.
00:13
The only difference is where our Cut Plane is.
00:16
What I'd like to do here, similar to Elevations, is create some Sections and Callouts,
00:21
with graphics ranging from Hidden Line production to Realistic.
00:26
Let's jump into Revit. I'm going to open my Workshared Architectural model, and I'm going to override.
00:37
Okay, let's do this. In our project browser under "Floor Plans", let's go to "Presentation First Floor".
00:52
Let's zoom in on our Pharmacy 1502. I'm going to create a Callout.
00:59
Problem is I think I have Callouts turned off.
01:02
Okay, under "Visibility Graphic Overrides", let's click the "Edit" button right here or type in "VG".
01:10
That's how all the cool kids do it. Go to "Annotation Categories", ha-ha.
01:17
Find "Callouts" and turn them on. Click "Apply", then click “OK”.
01:25
On the View tab, click "Callout". Pick a window around this area.
01:38
Over into about here, that's fine. Hit "ESC" a few times.
01:44
Select your Callout box. Notice that it highlights all of these grips, just like this grip right here.
01:53
Pick it and drag it over to about here. Zoom into here.
02:02
I'm gonna put a little elbow on it. So, pick this and click the elbow.
02:08
What's annoying is it's hard to get it perfect. So, zoom in on it even further, now we can pull that down, it's going to straighten it out.
02:18
Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I can't stand having these shadows turned on.
02:23
Let's turn our shadows off in this view. And we're gonna turn them on in our enlarged pharmacy plan.
02:30
But even before we do that, I don't like the graphics of this. Let's go to the Manage tab.
02:39
Let's go to Object Styles. Now globally, this is how all of our elements are gonna look in our model.
02:50
I want to go to Annotation Categories and find Callout Boundary.
02:55
Notice that we can drill into that and even have Callout leader line.
03:00
I don't mind Dash Dot but, boy, I want that boundary to be like 5, very thick.
03:07
Callout Leader Line, let's go with a 2. And Callout Head, let's go with a 2.
03:14
This is how we make our plans look better aesthetically. Click Apply. Click “OK”.
03:23
That's a lot better. Let's double click on our Callout bubble. I don't want to see these two items.
03:33
So, let's go back to Visibility Graphics for this view.
03:36
Now, remember, if you go to Manage Objects Styles, these are global for your entire model.
03:44
If we go to Visibility Graphic Overrides, this is simply overriding the view we're in.
03:50
So, click Edit, scroll down to Site and just turn it off completely.
03:58
By doing that, I'm gonna turn off my Project Base Point and my Survey Point.
04:04
Click Apply, click "OK". Here we go. I'll keep the shadows on here.
04:12
Set my scale. The 1/4" equals a foot.
04:22
Excellent. Now, what I'd like to do is take a Section right through here. So, I'm going to click on Section.
04:28
I'm gonna cut a Section right through here. Notice that we can't see it.
04:35
Sections are turned off. That's okay.
04:37
Type VG, let's go to Annotation Categories, find Sections and turn those back on. I'm going back and forth on purpose.
04:47
In the next video, we're gonna actually save these settings somewhere. Click Apply, click "OK".
04:55
There's a Section here already. Fine. I'm going to create another Section right here.
05:05
Perfect. Before I open that up, I'm gonna rename my presentation First Floor.
05:14
I'm gonna click into here, I'm gonna call it – PHARMACY, all caps.
05:24
Then hit Enter. I'm gonna double click on my Section Marker.
05:31
My scale is 1/4" equals a foot. I'm going to change that to 1/2" equals a foot.
05:39
Now I'm gonna type VG for Visibility Graphics, Annotation Categories.
05:48
I'm gonna turn my Levels off completely. Click Apply, click "OK".
05:57
Now I am going to select my crop region. I'm going to drag that down to about here.
06:07
I can drag my bottom one up a little bit.
06:14
Notice I have a Building Pad, I can turn that off individually.
06:18
So, I'm gonna select my Building Pad, right click, Hide in View, Elements.
06:27
The floor is in our model, we have a structural floor. I'm gonna turn our floor off.
06:32
I'm going to right click on that floor, Hide in View, Elements. Perfect.
06:40
Change your Detail Level to Fine. That way we see door knobs, we see details and walls.
06:52
Notice what's nice though, is when we cut another Section or Elevation, we can see other Sections and Elevations.
06:60
That's the coordination I'm talking about. Okay, this is perfect.
07:05
I don't like the name of it, though. Section 1 is no good.
07:10
Let's scroll down to View Name, let's call it PHARMACY SECTION.
07:19
We're facing East. Perfect. Click Apply. Okay, we've got it.
07:26
Now, it would be nice if we weren't just willy-nilly turning on and off elements in each view.
07:32
In the next video, we'll learn how to become more efficient with that workflow.

The great thing about Revit is the sections are created when you model the plans… well, mostly. If we model walls, doors, floors, and windows, we are getting Revit ready to start creating section views. Sorry. I know I just said exactly the same thing as the last set of instructions. That's because sections and elevations are basically the same thing.
To create a section view, follow along with these steps.
