Step-by-step Guide

In InfoWorks WS Pro, customizable themes enhance the visibility of results and other model data displayed on a GeoPlan. This example creates a theme to observe pressure at customer points throughout a simulation period.

First, open some simulation results:

  1. In the Model Group, under Run Group expand BridgeTown Base.
  2. Double-click BridgeCon.
  3. In the Docking windows toolbar, click Thematic Key window.
  4. From the Thematic Key, double-click Customer Point.

  1. In the Customer Point theme editor, manager pane, select each sub-theme to see the rules already applied.

For this example, disable the CustomerDemand and CustomerType sub-themes:

  1. From the manager pane, select CustomerDemand.
  2. In the toolbar, select Enable/Disable.
  3. Select Customer Type.
  4. Select Enable/Disable.

Now, create a new sub-theme:

  1. In the toolbar, select Add new.
  2. In the Name field, enter a descriptive name, such as “Pressure”.
  3. Expand the Field drop-down.
  4. Select sim.pressure (Pressure), which is a time varying value.

  1. Keep the Range set to Continuous.

To edit the range values:

  1. In the Ranged Themes table, Fix column, select Toggle All for the second value.
  2. Select Toggle All for the third value.
  3. In the Value (m) column, for this example, set the first value to “0”.
  4. Set the last value to “25”.

To create a more granular range between 0 and 25:

  1. In the Value (m) column, select the 0 cell.
  2. Next to Value Count, click the plus (+) button to set the value to 9.

To change how the values are calculated:

  1. In the Ranged Themes table, Value (m) column, click AutoScale to cycle through distribution options.
  2.  Set the distribution type to Log.

To update the colors assigned to each value:

  1. Click the Auto-Theme column header to cycle through automatic themes.
  2. OR to manually assign colors, expand the color drop-down for each value and select a color.

To apply other properties to the sub-theme:

  1. In the Properties list, select Circles.

The Ranged Themes table updates with a new column.

  1. In the Circles column, for one of the values, expand the drop-down and select 4.

The preview displays the updated value style with concentric circles.

  1. Optional: Assign circles to other values.

  1. Click OK.
  2. In the Properties and Themes dialog box, click OK.
  3. From the toolbar, select Play.
  4. Click through the timeline to see how the pressure changes over time.
