How to access and configure product models from the Autodesk platform.
Generate and place product variants within Revit. As well as share some best practices for working efficiently when generating variants.
In order to place variants within Revit, navigate to the Informed Design tab and launch the product command.
Product models are published to project folders in either BIMDocks or the autodesk construction cloud.
In order to access these project folders, one must have at least member level permissions to the a c c or Bim docs project.
Navigate to the appropriate ACC account and project folder location.
And select both the product model and release level.
As a product model could have multiple releases.
Then open the model to generate new and place existing variants.
The input form used for configuring variants reflects what was defined in the product definition before publishing.
Only the input parameters and representations allowed by the product manufacturer are available for modification.
The input rules defined by code blocks in the product definition.
Ensure that only valid configurations can be defined and generated.
Generating variants can take up to several minutes. So verify the configuration values are correct before launching the generate command.
It is also best practice to generate all variants up front as they can be generated simultaneously.
With their status shown from the existing tab.
This allows the user to continue working by either placing already generated variants or performing other Revit work while the new variants are being generated.
Once generated, variants are inserted as loadable Revit families that land in their specified categories in the revit project browser.
Once inserted, variants can be moved, copied, replaced, and deleted. Using the usual native Revit commands.
In summary, product models are published to BIMDox or ACC project folders.
Product variants are configured within Revit using the input form, and only valid product variants can be configured and generated.
Generated variants are inserted as loadable Revit families, which can be manipulated using native Revit commands.
